My rabbit's eye is bleeding and pussing after a fight. Is it infected?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 14 days old | 4 lbs

My bunnies got in a fight. Shiloh got both is eyes scratched bad. They were bleeding and pussing. Now it's getting hard and dry.

it sounds like he has an infection so he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can determine the severity of the injury to his eyes and prescribe medications to help. He may need an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory to treat an infection.

I am concerned that these could be abscesses or even tumors. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. In the meantime warm compresses to the eyes to help loosen discharge may help make him feel better. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

That does not look good! Onyx could have injured his eye or have an eye infection. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into a vet now.

It is possible that Winnie has a cataract. However cataracts are not very common in rabbits. I would be more concerned about a possible corneal ulcer or dental disease. A corneal ulcer occurs from trauma or a scratch to the eye. The eye is painful so rabbits will keep the eye shut and it will make the cornea white sometimes. Dental disease can cause discharge from the eye. When the teeth over grow it can put pressure on a duct that causes eye discharge. I would recommend to go to the vet tomorrow and hopefully Winnie will be feeling better soon

My rescued bunny's scratched, oozing eye: Will it heal or need a vet?

If your bunny has an eye ulcer and an actual puncture to her eye, that is unlikely to heal on it's own and she could lose the eye if it gets infected inside the eye or the eye perforates. She needs to see a vet to get some meds into the eye and probably oral meds as well. They can do a test to see how deep the scratch on the eye is to help get her better.

Yes! Holiday definitely needs medical care ASAP! I can’t see the eye in the picture but there appears to be raw, likely infected skin cranial to the eyes, possibly draining discharge from an eye infection (hard to see the eye in this picture). Holiday could benefit from sedation, very careful clipping of the crusted fur on his face, cleaning of the raw skin with chlorhexidine, a topical antibiotic /steroid ointment for the skin +/- injectable Baytril, likely ophthalmic antibiotics for the eye and an e-collar to prevent scratching and further injury. Holiday is very cute…best wishes for a quick recovery!

My outdoor rabbit has puffy, red, scabby eyelids. What's wrong?

It looks like Nezzi has some swelling, redness, and inflammation around his eyes. I would be concerned about an infectious cause that needs treatment with some sort of antibiotics. Rabbits also get a lot of structural disease in their nasal sinuses and teeth that can cause other facial problems. I'd recommend getting Nezzi to his veterinarian for a physical exam. They can guide you best on diagnostics or treatment after seeing him.

My blind rabbit's eye pus burst. Do I need to see a vet now?

Thanks for reaching out about Rayo. One parasite that commonly caused lens changes (cataracts) is Encephlitozoon cuniculi. It can be treated and responds fairly well to treatment but hard to tell if parasite is gone. If the lens becomes luxated into the anterior chamber of the globe, glaucoma can result and needs to be treated. When an abscess bursts, it is a good idea to have a visit to your veterinarian, as abscesses usually need systemic antibiotics to manage. Good luck.
