My rabbit has white eye goop but is acting fine. Should I worry?

You can take a warm damp cloth and hold it over the eye to loosen the discharge, then gently wipe it away. Do this as as often as needed. Please don’t put anything in the eye unless you get an exam with your veterinarian. They will examine the eye and once they have a diagnosis then they can prescribe eye ointment if needed. Hello. Sorry Riley is having this issue. A vet visit is always recommended as we cannot diagnose conditions over the internet. You know him best so if you think he isn't in pain and it's not bothering him at this stage you can always elect to just monitor him. Clear ocular discharge is not very worrisome. I would be more worried if the discharge was green or yellow or if his eye was matted shut or he was squinting the eye. The cataract can shift causing some issues but I doubt that is the case. IT looks like Hero might have an eye infection but most likely has an issue with his teeth. Rabbits are very prone to dental disease and overgrowth of their molars. When the molars over grow it puts pressure of the tear duct and white discharge will form. It is best for hero to see a vet for a good exam of the mouth and eye to determine the cause and start providing proper treatment! hope that helps and thanks for using pet coach

Miffy may have blocked tear ducts He could also have chronic conjunctivitis that requires a different eye drops with antibiotic. Please, take Miffy to your local vet and discuss flushing the tear ducts (this is fairly easy to do but many rabbits need mild sedation for this procedure) or start him on different eye drops. Your vet may want to send off a swab from the eyes to external laboratory to find out what type of antibiotic would be best to use.

Thanks for reaching out about Shila. There is suspect that trauma or infection is affecting the eye. Try gently wiping with a warm wetted washcloth to determine if any thick white discharge is noted. This is an infection. Since rabbit eyes are large and situated laterally on the head, it is not uncommon that the eyes become scratched or worse while sticking their heads into bushes, etc. Any chance of a predator (cat, other) encounter? A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. They should be able to examine the eye and present a treatment plan. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Flash. Warm ears are not necessarily a fever. Watery eyes could be lacrimal duct obstructions or infections. If still concerned about Flash being ill, a veterinary visit is recommended. Is he still eating? Try wiping the eyes with a warm washcloth. Good luck.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Gunky discharge from the eye may be a sign of an eye infection. I would recommend having Honey assessed by a vet within the next 24 hours, as eye problems can worsen quickly if untreated. In the meantime, if you are comfortable with it you can try gently flushing the eye out with a sterile saline solution in case there is any foreign material such as dirt or hay stuck under the eyelid, causing the eye infection. If you notice the eye is getting worse or if she is scratching at it, I would recommend getting her seen by the vet as soon as possible! I hope this helps, and that Honey is feeling better soon!
