What to do if my dog's eye is protruding after being missing?

I'm very concerned that Bruno's eye was coming out of its socket, and the red color could be due to the initial cause of the eye coming out or from you pushing it back in. This can be caused by trauma, a head injury, or a shallow eye socket. He has to see a vet immediately for this problem even though you have pushed the eye back in, which I would never recommend doing yourself again. This would have been very painful for him, and you may have accidentally done damage to the eye, socket, and tissue, which as I said could be the reason why the eye is so red now. This is not a procedure that is ever recommended for owners to do, expect in extreme circumstances such as being hours away from a vet, no water or saline available, you and the dog are stranded, etc. In addition, there is a chance he could lose his sight from this prolapse, and his vision needs to be evaluated right away. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck!

I would recommend getting Duke to the veterinarian ASAP. If he has a penetrating foreign body to the eye, puncture, or even a deep scratch he could potentially become blind in that eye without quick intervention. I wounds are often very painful and he may require pain medication, as well as topical medication and or systemic antibiotics. But Duke really needs to be evaluated by veterinarian in person to see what type of injury he has sustained. Good luck, I hope he’s back to normal soon. It may be possible, but he should be physically examined by your veterinarian, a veterinary ophthalmologist or at the nearest veterinary ER. If not, he may lose the eye. Place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the doctor.

Poor Merry! I'm glad he came home though. It could be that he injured his eyes out in the woods, and that is causing the big pouches next to each eye. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take Merry into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now so this can be diagnosed and treated.

Eye injuries are considered emergencies. I suggest you get Leo to a vet for an examination as soon as possible. The longer you wait to seek treatment, the more likely he is to have permanent damage and/or lose vision. I would get him to a vet ASAP. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Without a photo I cannot really give you any suggestions other than to take Shaggy to your vet for an exam. If you want to post again with some photos then maybe we could be more helpful. I can tell you that any eye injuries can be severe to the point that he could lose his vision so your best course of action (especially based on your description) would be to get him to your vet for an exam.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. I would recommend taking him in to the vet as soon as possible, including the emergency vet if your vet isn't open. This could be corneal edema or a corneal ulceration. We could also possibly have trauma within the eye that we cannot see due to the cloudiness of the cornea, such as bleeding of retinal vessels or trauma to the optic nerve and the earlier the eye is treated the better the chance of healing and preserving vision.
