Dog eye drops: Should I give anti-inflammatory or antibiotic first?

I would follow the instructions - it sounds like your vet wants one medication (I'd guess Ofloxacin) to be given more frequently. Although it says every 8 hours you can plan to do it three times a day spread over waking hours. You will need to wait 10 minutes in the morning and evening to maximize absorption.

I'm assuming the vet who prescribed these did a corneal eye stain to make sure the surface of the eyes were not damaged. You can place the drops in the eyes as directed and then wait about 15 minutes and follow with the ointment. Great question.

Both are antibiotic ointments, so I would recommend sticking with the Isathal for now and scheduling another appointment if she's not feeling better after 24 hours. You can increase the frequency of the Isathal because extra lubrication can help with comfort. Another thing to ask your veterinarian about it placing a contact on her eye - not all vets have these in their offices, but if they do it can help a lot with comfort. Good luck to you and Jasmine. I am so sorry to hear that Kaimana is experiencing these problems with her eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Kaimana to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is injured, inflamed or infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Her to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. An rlceration is a tear in the top layer of the eye and is a serious condition. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue immediately. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Your vet will use a special tear stain drop to visualise the eye and the top layer to make are there are no ulcerations, and check for other conditions before prescribing medications. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. Hello and thank you for the update. Please, do not use dexamethasone as it is detrimental in case of corneal damage. You can use Ciprofloxacine instead twice a day until you can get Roshni seen by your vet. There is no need to use systemic antibiotic, like Amoxicilin.

If it is just a little bit of discharge, then I would continue to monitor it. Tobramycin is an antibiotic, and if it was prescribed for Jackie, it should be safe. But you don't want to accidentally treat a bacterial infection when the true cause of the discharge is something like a corneal ulcer. Applying this medication before a vet makes a diagnosis may make it harder for the vet to determine the cause of the issue, if needed. Use a warm wet washcloth to remove the discharge. If it continues in a couple of hours, I would recommend that you call the vet that prescribes the medication to see if they recommend an exam or that you use the ointment.
