No, I don't recommend to use this product. There are other antibiotics that are more appropriate for eye infections but you will need to call your veterinarian for recommendations. Pharmacy law prohibits online veterinarians from discussing the usage of medications not prescribed for that individual pet. There is a supplement called Lysine which may also help. If it is just a little bit of discharge, then I would continue to monitor it. Tobramycin is an antibiotic, and if it was prescribed for Jackie, it should be safe. But you don't want to accidentally treat a bacterial infection when the true cause of the discharge is something like a corneal ulcer. Applying this medication before a vet makes a diagnosis may make it harder for the vet to determine the cause of the issue, if needed. Use a warm wet washcloth to remove the discharge. If it continues in a couple of hours, I would recommend that you call the vet that prescribes the medication to see if they recommend an exam or that you use the ointment.

I recommend you use an E-collar so he doesn't rub the eye and cause a scratch on the surface of the eye. Do not put anything in the eye until you see your Vet. Ointments or drops for the eye are made specifically to be safe for use in the eye. Ointments for the skin are not safe to be put in the eye. I wish you the best and Nico a speedy recovery!

If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Isabeau to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in dogs I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. For example if a corneal ulcer is present in addition to an infection. This is an especially important point while Isabeau is pregnant, and vetroplolycin may not be the appropriate medication for the precise issue with her eyes or while she is pregnant.
