My dog has eye discharge. Is it an infection if cleaning solution isn't helping?

That is pretty significant discharge that Nola has around her eyes. This is likely secondary to an infection (eye or upper respiratory) or even an allergy. It would be best to have Nola examined by a veterinarian because she may need medicated eye drops or even an oral antibiotic to treat the eyes. It's always better to have a dog seen if there are eye issues going on as it can progress to more serious issues quickly. You may use a sterile saline solution to rinse Nola's eyes but I don't think that will resolve the issue. So again, it's really the best idea to have Nola evaluated by your veterinarian. Poor Minnue! She absolutely has to see a vet for this problem, she sounds very ill and her eyes seem very infected if you can smell it. I'm quite concerned about this, and it's frankly animal cruelty to leave her in this condition. Oral antibiotics will not fix her eyes, eye infections require a topical antibiotic ointment. But it may be too late to save her eyes if they are severely infected, and they may have to be removed. I would consider this a medical emergency, and she needs to see a vet now. Please have taken into a vet now, even if you have to do it yourself. Get her to an ER vet clinic or find a vet on call to see her right away. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It sounds as your cat is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take her to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.

Poor girl. White discharge from the eyes can indicate either a dry eye conditon or the beginning of an allergic conjunctivitis (allergies causing inflammation of the eyes). If she is also sneezing and rubbing her eyes from irritation, then chances are she has allergic conjunctivitis. You can discuss with your vet about trying some over the counter or vet prescribed antihistamine medication to try and help with this. Your vet may want to examine her first just to make sure we are on the right track with her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. In the meantime I would continue to apply warm compresses on her eyelids (while holding them closed) and Henry cleansing the discharge as needed to prevent irritation around her eyes. Ouch! Meeka needs to be examined by the veterinarian. She likely has an eye infection and something like a corneal abrasion or even 'dry eye' is possible. Have her examined today and protect the eye from any rubbing (she may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times). I hope she feels better quickly.

The tearing and discharge may indicate an infection or injury. You would need to have Tobby physically examined by your veterinarian or a veterinary ophthalmologist to diagnose the underlying cause. The appropriate treatment can then be administered. In the meantime, place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent pawing or rubbing until he sees the doctor. A warm, moist washcloth can be used to gently clean around the eye itself. Schedule an appointment sooner rather than later to prevent unnecessary pain or potential permanent damage to the eye.
