My dog's eye changed color. Why did this happen and what should I do?

This could be a normal pigment change with age. If you could post a picture that may help identify what exactly is going on. However if his eye is normal, he's not squinting, no tearing, no discharge then it's likely a normal change for him.

Poor guy. I can't see the eye really clear here but can definitely tell that the pupil sizes are different. The left eye appears to be smaller than the right. I suspect that there may be an internal issue with the eye such as a condition called synechiae which is where the lens adheres to another structure in the eye causing inadequate proper flow through the eye chambers. This is considered to be a moderately severe condition and should be checked by your vet asap. The vet will have to do a proper eye exam to confirm the diagnosis and then get Ziggy on prescription eye mediation to hopefully stabilize the eye if this is what is going on. Another possible causes for this would be a condition called anisocoria, which could indicate a blood pressure issue. I hope that Ziggy's eye returns to normal soon! It's hard to tell if that is a hair or problem with the cornea/lens. If it is new or changing, it would be best to have a vet take a look at it -- they can stain it with a special dye to check if it is a cut or abrasion and requires treatment.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the right eye looks slightly larger than the left eye because of the pigmentation of the left eye. I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. When this happens to one pupil it is known as aniscoria. The pupils should always be the same size. There are many reasons it can occur but considering you say you saw a blueness in the eye previously, I would be suspicious of a type of inflammation called uveitis. You will have to head to the vet to get Abbie an eye exam to determine exactly what is going on and get her the appropriate treatment. If it is uveitis it is usually treated with eye drops.

While yes, they are typically white with some blood vessels present, some dogs may have different concentrations of pigment cells (melanocytes) that can make some sclera darker than the other or even just a portion of it. It will be important to take Piggy to see your veterinarian or an ophthalmologist if you notice him squinting his eye, scratching at it, increased tear production (weepy eye) or you notice that he has any obvious defects on the surface of his eye. These signs usually indicate irritation or damage to the eye and can be quite painful for Piggy or others.
