My dog's eye is blue and cloudy after ulcer surgery. Is it healing?

The blue cloudiness is caused by swelling in the cornea from the ulcer. If the ulcer is treated and heals the cornea should become clear again. Sometimes there will be a small scar from the ulcer. This is likely to be due to a corneal ulceration, possibly due the enrolling of the lower eyelid and its rubbing against the eye surface. The blue discoloration is due to the presence of inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye. The other signs seems to be related to the ulcer. I would recommend another check up to determine the underlying cause of it more specifically and give appropriate treatment. Serum and antibiotic eye drops will be needed.

You won't know how it is healing just by looking. We used lights, special stain, and small magnifiers to get a really good look at the eye. Blue appearance means that the cornea is swollen. Red in the white part of the eye is inflammation, which is normal. Red in other parts of the eye may not be normal. Definitely keep your appointment on Saturday. Also, if they didn't give you one, I recommend wearing an e-collar, since dogs often will rub their eyes when there is discomfort, and this rubbing can delay healing.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gizmo! The cloudiness likely just indicated the edema in the cornea. That can go away quickly. Superficial (not deep) corneal ulcers heal in 5-7 days. Since you can still see the ulcer and since it was deep I do not think the ulcer itself is healed yet, just the surrounding cornea. Hello, thank you for your question about Brownie. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be very suspicious that Brownie could have an ulcer on his eye. Ulcers require treatment with topical antibiotics and pain medications. I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian so that they can stain the eye and confirm the presence of the ulcer and prescribe the needed medications. Additionally, an important aspect of treatment is preventing Brownie from rubbing/scratching at his eye. If possible please use an e-collar to prevent him from causing further damage. From the pictures you have posted, it looks like handsome Simba could be suffering with keratitis which might be secondary to the presence of the ulcer. He might need to have other antinflammatory drops into the eye. It is best to wait for your appt on Sat and see when the eye is stained with fluorescin if the ulcer has gone completely and take it from there. Good luck !

Poor Issy! From your description, I would be most concerned that Issy has developed a corneal ulcer that caused her eye discharge and eye rubbing/scratching. The cloudy area on the eye could be the area of ulceration. At this point, the best thing you can do for Issy is to take her back to the vet for further evaluation because corneal ulcers can progress fairly rapidly. Be sure to keep her e-collar (cone/hood) on until her vet appointment to prevent her from rubbing or scratching the eye further. I hope that all goes well!
