My puppy's eye is blue and red. How to tell if her ulcer is healing?

Blue and cloudy discoloration could be due to an inflammation and accumulation of fluid in the anterior chamber of the eye. It is impossible for us to tell whether the eye is improving or not as a physical examination would be needed. After surgery a certain grade of inflammation is expected anyway. I would recommend a check up to make sure there is no deterioration of the corneal indolent ulcer.

This is likely to be due to a corneal ulceration, possibly due the enrolling of the lower eyelid and its rubbing against the eye surface. The blue discoloration is due to the presence of inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye. The other signs seems to be related to the ulcer. I would recommend another check up to determine the underlying cause of it more specifically and give appropriate treatment. Serum and antibiotic eye drops will be needed.

The blue cloudiness is caused by swelling in the cornea from the ulcer. If the ulcer is treated and heals the cornea should become clear again. Sometimes there will be a small scar from the ulcer. I am sorry to hear about Luna. Unfortunately every corneal ulcer progresses differently and we cannot really predict how rapidly they will heal, particularly without seeing the eye in person as photos of eyes are very difficult to interpret. Normally with corneal ulcers I like to recheck them in a week or earlier if I feel they are bad or the pet seems increasingly uncomfortable. Some ulcers will heal within a week while others take much longer and make require advanced treatments. I would recommend calling your vet to see if Luna should be rechecked and leaving her cone on until your vet has confirmed it is ok to take it off. Best of luck to you and Luna.

Hello, thank you for your question about Brownie. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be very suspicious that Brownie could have an ulcer on his eye. Ulcers require treatment with topical antibiotics and pain medications. I would recommend consulting with your veterinarian so that they can stain the eye and confirm the presence of the ulcer and prescribe the needed medications. Additionally, an important aspect of treatment is preventing Brownie from rubbing/scratching at his eye. If possible please use an e-collar to prevent him from causing further damage. It looks like Dylan may have a melting ulcer or a descemetocoele, which is a serious problem that can result in loss of the eye. I would take him to your veterinarian right away as this would constitute an ocular emergency.
