My dog has a cloudy eye and discharge after spay. What to do?

The sensitivity to light is a sign of pain. I wiukd first be worried about an ulcer on the cornea. This can cause pain and a discharge and easy to test for. Glaucoma can have a big eye and a red eye, not usually squinting. An eye infection can also cause these issues along with a dry eye. Your vet can check the tear production and look for an ulcer as each one has medicine that can correct this

Hi Hannah! It could be that Sydney has an eye infection or could have injured her eye. There could be a foreign body there also, such as a grass seed. This is something that needs to be checked out by a vet promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would put an Ecollar on her now to keep her from rubbing at her eye and making it worse, and take her into the vet first thing in the morning. Blue and cloudy discoloration could be due to an inflammation and accumulation of fluid in the anterior chamber of the eye. It is impossible for us to tell whether the eye is improving or not as a physical examination would be needed. After surgery a certain grade of inflammation is expected anyway. I would recommend a check up to make sure there is no deterioration of the corneal indolent ulcer.

The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency and should never be treated at home. That's because leaving it untreated or attempting home treatment could go very wrong and lead to vision loss. I would take Hershey into the vet immediately. Her sudden lethargy and loss of appetite could be related to eye pain, or could be another problem altogether. Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, or the pinkish tissues surrounding the eye, and is not necessarily an actual diagnosis, but rather is a sign of other conditions. At this point, since Phoebe's eye is becoming more clouded with even more discharge despite the medication, the best thing you can do is take Phoebe back to the vet for a recheck. If your vet is closed today, I would recommend going to an emergency vet for more urgent evaluation since eye problems can progress rapidly. In all likelihood, Phoebe needs to have a full eye exam, as well as some diagnostic tests including a fluorescein stain of her eye (to check for ulcers/scratches on the cornea), Schirmer tear test (to check tear production), and possibly have her eye pressures tested.
