My dog got essential oil on her face. Is she having an allergy?

Thank you for posting more information on the essential oil blend! From what I can find, it appears that the essential oil in that blend does not contain any toxic oils for dogs. The fact that the cap was still on the bottle makes it more likely Rosie didn't ingest any of the oil. Hopefully she should be just fine, but if you do notice vomiting, anorexia, nervousness, lethargy, tremors, or any other strange symptoms, have her seen by a vet right away. In the future, make sure that Rosie has no access to any essential oils at all to be safe.

Essential oils can cause problems in pets, especially if ingested or if they cannot get away from the smell. I do recommend not use the lotion around Ginger as it is best to play it safe. Do not keep the oils in an area where Ginger can access them. Do not apply the strong smelling lotion in small spaces or areas without good ventilation. If Cora is acting perfectly normal, I would keep an eye on her for now. If her eyes become red, you see discharge from her eyes, she rubs at her eyes or face, or you notice increased sneezing, then I would take her into an ER vet immediately. Wash her face off with cool water. I hope this helps.

Essential oils can produce vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, lack of appetite, nausea and more. However, as the oils you listed are not known to be particularly toxic to dogs I suggest to monitor Tiramius at home for now. If you notice any vomiting, diarrhea or abnormal behavior in the next few hours, you should take your puppy to your local vets for an appointment.

I would avoid using essential oils directly on your dog as it could cause skin irritation, or be toxic, depending on the oil. If you use diffusers in your home, making sure Hudson is in a well-ventilated area away from it can help prevent inhalation that could cause irritation or illness.

It definitely seems like she's reacting and it may be worth taking her to a vet for medication if this doesn't go down soon. The best thing you can do at this time is wash your dog again with just cool water. The cool water will help give some relief and will help to remove the cause of the reaction. I recommend using a shower head for 15 minutes all over her body, so there is good pressure to remove the shampoo residue. If she happens to start vomiting, has trouble breathing, or starts breathing faster than normal, then these are signs of a severe allergic reaction and I recommend taking her to the emergency vet immediately for treatment. Hello. Most of the oil was either absorbed into your skin or wiped off onto your pillow & sheets overnight. I doubt very much there was any left on your skin to cause any problems for Demi. She will be fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
