Dog got bumps from new shampoo. How to treat an allergic reaction?

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. If the bumps developed after you bathed Ivy, she certainly could be having an allergic reaction to the shampoo, but if the rash was already there, she might be having an allergic reaction to something else or may even have a skin infection. There are a number of reasons for skin problems in dogs. This article does an excellent job of describing them. There are some simple skin tests that can help determine if she has a skin infection that needs to be treated and you can discuss options if they think she is having an allergic reaction or has allergies. I could be that Zeke is suffering an allergic reaction from the puppy shampoo, and I would not use it again on him. The bumps may go away on their own, but oftentimes an allergic reaction requires veterinary treatment to fix. As long as the bumps aren't getting bigger and his face isn't swelling (which would affect his ability to breathe), it's fine to wait until the morning to have him seen by a vet. If his bumps get larger, more appear, and/or his face starts swelling, take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him right away. I hope this helps!

I would be worried that Java had an allergic reaction to the new shampoo. We will sometimes recommend using Benadryl to resolve the small bumps if we suspect they have occurred due to an allergic reaction. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/ However, if the larger bump is open, then it may not respond to Benadryl. You certainly want to prevent Java from licking or scratching at the wound if it is open because he will make it worse. The best thing you can do for this is give a bath with cool water using an oatmeal or aloe shampoo. You can get these shampoos at the pet store. Thoroughly flush the skin with cool water for at-least 15 minutes before applying the shampoo. After the bath, Rookie's bumps should be gone within 24 hours. If not, then you can give another bath on the following day. If a week goes by and the bumps are still there, then it's best to take him to the vet for treatment. This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Hi, from your pictures it appears that Mackenzie Ray is having an allergic reaction to something. You may see hives, small bumps, all over her skin. If she is vomiting or having trouble breathing, she needs to see a vet immediately. You can try giving her some Benadryl to see if that resolves. I cannot give you a dose but you can look one up online. Also, a shampoo with steroid can give her some relief.
