My dog is on Enrofloxacin for pyometra. When will she feel better?

Maybe baytril is not the only reason for the nausea, Pyometra is also known to cause nausea and vomiting. Baytril is also not enough to treat pyometra, Prostaglandin as well as Alyzin need to be prescribed. generally speaking your vet can try giving her Cerenia to try and treat the nausea, if it does not help i strongly recommend having her spayed urgently.

Hi, sorry to hear about Daisy's troubles! Pyometra surgery in most cases is relatively uncomplicated. She should be on pain medication and antibiotics that your vet would have provided. many pain medications for dogs can make them sleepy. 60 hours post of she should be starting to feel back to herself within another day. If she is still lethargic and is having any problems like not eating diarrhea, a fever or acting dull, she should be rechecked by your vet. If she is not having any of these, she may just have hard a tough time with anesthesia. I would say by day 3 or 4 if she is not back to herself, call you vet and ask if it could be related to any medication she was sent home with. It may take several days to see improvement after starting medications. If your dog is extremely uncomfortable due to inflammation in the ear, you may ask your vet if an anti-inflammatory drug such as a steroid or NSAID can be prescribed to help with the discomfort until the ear antibiotic kicks in. If you haven't seen improvement and several days have passed, it is possible a resistant bacteria is growing in the ear and you may need a different medication.

Antibiotics can be used, but they don't always cure a pyometra. The best treatment is surgery. If Narly cannot have surgery and she has cancer, it may be best to let her go peacefully. Pyometras make the dog extremely sick, and you do not want her to suffer if she cannot have surgery. There is no guarantee antibiotics will even help. I would speak to her vet about possibly letting her go if she can't have surgery. I am sorry.

I would increase the antibiotics back to a higher dose is able and consider having her spayed as this can cure her the fastest. Antibiotics alone typically do not work for a cure but simply manage the problem

Hello, sorry other about Lee. That is indeed a low dose for a Baytril prescription. I would double check with your veterinarian about the dose as perhaps it was intended to be given twice daily. Clavamox could also be administered to treat an infection either on its own or in combination with the Baytril. PGF2 Alpha is not an antibiotic and may help rid the fluid within the uterus but will not treat an infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.
