How long until my puppy feels better after inner ear infection meds?

Poor Jake! Treatment response is variable. Most pets will start to respond within 5-7 days but some may take longer. Some pets are treated for an inner ear infection for up to 6 weeks. In situations like this, it is best to always keep your veterinarian updated with the condition so that they can make any adjustments if needed. Although you aren’t seeing any improvement yet, continue giving the medication as previously prescribed. Sometimes it can take 2 weeks to get the infection under control. Keep in mind also that the infection may be getting better but there is still some exudate/debris in the ear. If, by the time you return from your trip, there is still no improvement, make an appointment for a recheck examination with your vet. Occasionally there are resistant infections that need special medication. Hopefully this will not be the case for Lulu. Trisha should start feeling better within about 48 hours if the treatment is working. It sounds like the vet decided to hold of on a topical treatment and have you start with just cleaning. So if you clean her ears with the MalAcetic tomorrow and Thursday is she still flapping/itching then I would recommending calling her veterinarian to see if they would like to prescribe her a topical treatment. I'm very sorry that Joe is in pain. It's common for Cocker Spaniels to have chronic ear infections resulting in just this type of situation. I'm so glad you able to get in to see your local Veterinarian. The mediations he/she has prescribe should help some with the pain. If Joe seems restless and can't get comfortable, you'l want to call your doctor and verify that he's on the appropriate dosage and maybe ask if he can take a little more. Your doctor may also be able to prescribe a light sedative. Unfortunately, a vinegar bath probably won't do much. It's really a just going to take patience. The inflammation should go down within a few days and Joe will have some relief. Please keep us up to date with his progression. If you notice he's uncomfortable eating, you might offer a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. Try to keep his ears as clean and dry as possible. While he's sleeping you can lay his ears open or find a way to keep them up so that the air will circulate. Yeast and bacteria love a wet warm environment. This depends on the drug that was given but it is possibly a side effect. Also remember that ear infections themselves can cause lethargy or “off” behavior as can the stress of visiting the vet. Don’t panic unless you see vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, collapse, or other worrisome signs. I wonder if he is having a reaction to the medication? It Shouldn’t bother him, and if it does I’m worried. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian soon. Hello, I'm sorry to hear about your chiahuahua's ear infections. Unfortunately, ear infections can be very painful and sometimes take two to three weeks to heal. I would recommend keeping your follow up appointment with your veterinarian on Monday so that they can check his progress and determine if he is healing normally. I hope this is helpful.
