Why is my dog suddenly more energetic after changing her food?

Sometimes dogs can get bored of their diets periodically. You can try a new diet or possibly mix his current diet with canned food to see if that helps. Best of luck!

A good quality and balanced diet is fundamental to provide nutrients to all body parts including the nervous system. The food you are providing affects Natasha level of energy, brain health and indirectly, for these reasons, her behavior. I would recommend a complete dry or wet diet as Royal Canin or Hills.

An agility class is definitely a fantastic ideal to keep a high energy Border Collie healthy. As far as food goes - you can't go wrong with brands like Purina, Hills Science Diet, or Royal Canin. There are a variety of diets offered by these brands, especially for active dogs. What veterinarians do not recommend are grain-free diets, or vegan or vegetarian diets, as these are associated with the development of heart disease in dogs. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs will just get bored of the same diet and just need to be switched to a completely new diet. I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

Rapid changes in food can cause intestinal issues, but these are typically diarrhea/vomiting. I recommend having Luke seen by a vet as soon as possible if you think that he is not being himself. I would recommend experimenting with different dog food formulas, texture, kibble size, dry vs. canned, etc. and see if this helps.
