My dog stopped eating her food. Should I change her food or brand?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 6 months old | 170 lbs

My dog stopped eating her brand of dog food. Should I get a different bag of the same brand and exact same food? Or should I switch to a new brand of dog food?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs will just get bored of the same diet and just need to be switched to a completely new diet. I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

Switching flavors of food, even within the same brand, can cause GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. Dogs do not get bored with the same food, they can eat the same flavor every day and be fine. There may be a medical reasons as to why she appears bored, such as a dental issue. I'd have her checked out with the vet to be safe. Best of luck.

Are my dogs bored? They stopped eating food but still love treats!

I would say that they are probably bored with the food, especially if they are not vomiting or having diarrhea. Try switching things up to another brand such as Royal Canin, Eukanuba, or even Viktor. I would recommend doing a slow transition over the course of a week to avoid any stomach upset and then trying on of the foods above or one you've found during your research. My dog won't eat his new kibble after switching from Raw Boost.

I would recommend doing a gradual transition to the new food. Slowly every day remove some of the old food and add more of the new food. If he is still not eating when you try the gradual transition then I would recommend having him evaluated to make sure there is nothing medical going on.
