Can my dog's diet really impact its behavior and energy levels?

Royal Canin's Calm Diet is formulated specifically for this purpose - it contains natural calming agents such as tryptophan and milk thistle to help with anxiety and aggression issues in dogs. You could certainly give this a try, if you like. It shouldn't hurt anything, and it may help. Some of my behavior clients have seen good results with it in the past.

An agility class is definitely a fantastic ideal to keep a high energy Border Collie healthy. As far as food goes - you can't go wrong with brands like Purina, Hills Science Diet, or Royal Canin. There are a variety of diets offered by these brands, especially for active dogs. What veterinarians do not recommend are grain-free diets, or vegan or vegetarian diets, as these are associated with the development of heart disease in dogs. I hope this is helpful!

I would recommend feeding Chacha a commercially prepared senior dog food diet. This will ensure that she is getting a balanced diet. Senior diets also tend to have less calories than a maintenance diet and more fiber. These help an older dog stay trim and fit. This can give you complete and balanced diet ideas that are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist for optimal health. You could also try adding some fish oils to her diet. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids can help with brain health, skin/coat health, and eye health. Any veggie or fruit, with the exception of onions and grapes/raisins, can be given as treats for Chacha. These diets are not balanced appropriately for domesticated dogs and can carry bacteria (salmonella) can cause diarrhea and sometimes death. This bacteria is also contagious to humans. I recommend diets made my quality pet food companies. In the US, I like Hills/Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina, and Iams. These diets are made by veterinary nutritionists and tested for safety for decades. Dogs typically don’t get bored with the same diet like humans do. If they aren’t offered anything different they won’t know there is something better. If you wanted to add something more I would get the canned food that matches the dry food you pick and add that to his food. Watch how much you feed so you don’t give him too many calories. First off, I would have her seen by a vet. She may be lethargic because she is sick, and she needs a health check. As for food, I'd feed her either Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams.

Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. It’s likely that his behavior was affected by multiple things. He was in a new environment with potential exposure to other pets either directly or indirectly. His daily routine changed completely, and he was interacting with new people. It’s likely that even if his diet had not changed in amount, your pup may have still had changes in his behavior. His decrease in diet could had indeed contributed by not satisfying him completely and then becoming anxious over still wanting food. I would discuss this multiple changes to his environment when he needs to be at a boarding facility again. Hope this helps and best of luck.
