After vet-induced vomiting, when can my dog eat and stop throwing up?

Hi, sorry to hear your dog is having this problem. I would recommend an ultrasound to make sure he does not have Inflammatory bowel disorder or a foreign body that does not show up on x ray. Some foreign objects can migrate throughout the GI tract so they can sometimes cause problems and sometimes be fine. An infection would not cause this problem. The anti vomiting injection only lasts 24 hours so if he did not vomit on that, you can try oral tablet of it. But if he did vomit through the injection, it is more likely he has a foreign body. If your vet cannot do an abdominal ultrasound, I would go to a specialist who has an ultrasound and is good at them to find out what is wrong Good luck, I hope this helps!

Start by just feeding a little of his normal food. You can feed a spoonful or two of food, wait two hours, then feed a little more if he's keeping that down. After that, you can feed as normal if he seems to be back to normal. Poor Jake! It's quite serious that he is vomiting after drinking water, and I would not feed him at this point in time. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, and if the vomiting stops, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Should Jake keep vomiting water, vomits in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately.

I'm glad that Machin is doing better after being so sick! It is recommended to withhold food when a dog is vomiting. I'm not sure when Machin last vomited, but I would wait at least 12 hours from the time he last vomited before feeding him again. If Lexus continues to vomit or starts to have diarrhea in the next 24-48 hours I would bring her in to see your veterinarian as she may benefit from anti-nausea medication, fluids, anti-diarrheal antibiotics and a prescription intestinal diet. The peroxide can be very irritating to the esophagus and stomach lining. It is the main reason we do not recommend using it to induce vomiting. You can try withholding food for 12-24 hours, allowing small, frequent amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a soft, bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Start with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no dry heaving or vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to Gene's regular diet. If the dry heaving persists, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

If Shieyah is vomiting and not stopping I would recommend a veterinarian. They can provide a medication to stop the vomiting and make sure it is nothing to be concerned about, like pancreatitis or even a foreign body. If she vomited once. I would withhold food for about 6 hours and rec small multiple meals of boiled chicken and white rice or a prescription bland diet. If she gets worse after this then she needs to see a veterinarian.
