My dog vomited after drinking water and has watery diarrhea. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 6 months old | 26 lbs

My dog has passed projectile water instead of normal motion and has vomited twice I have not fed him yet but he vomited after drinking water - has seemed ok since and has no temperature or tummy tenderness

Poor Jake! It's quite serious that he is vomiting after drinking water, and I would not feed him at this point in time. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, and if the vomiting stops, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Should Jake keep vomiting water, vomits in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately.

Poor Arnie! Yes you can give him water, and I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Poor Duke! If he's been dry heaving for five hours and seems very lethargic, it would be best to have him seen by a vet now to diagnose the cause of the dry heaving. You can also try a home remedy to see if that works. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the dry heaving continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

My dog won't eat and keeps vomiting after drinking. Is it serious?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Odie! Causes for vomiting and not eating are: viral or bacterial infections, liver or kidney problems, cancer, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), ate something that is stuck, toxin ingestion, new food/treat/table food or the broth. Any new food could cause an upset stomach. i would with hold water for 6 hours and food for 12 hours. If Odie continues to vomit during the fast he should see a Vet. If there is no vomiting for the first 6 hours, offer small amounts of water. If he holds down the water then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals at the 12 hour mark. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. If he won't eat or continues to vomit he needs to see a Vet for an exam, blood work and belly X-rays. I hope this helps and i wish Odie the very best!

If he keeps it down, you can offer more water and small amount of bland food (cooked chicken or other lean meat) in the next 1-2hrs. If he is taking the food and keeping all down you should give him more every 2-3hrs. However, if Chapo continues to vomit, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment today. Vomiting in otherwise healthy dog is usually caused by stomach upset from gastrointestinal infection, inflamed pancreas, abdominal pain.

I am sorry to hear about Mia. If she is very lethargic/weak, has blood in the vomit, or has a painful abdomen then I think she needs to be seen by her vet right away. If she seems energetic then you can try removing her food and water and fasting her for 6 hours (no food, no water,no treats, no grass or things in the yard if she goes outside) and see if the vomiting stops. If it continues she needs to visit her vet.
