My dog has a dry nose. What can I use that he won't lick or rub off?

I see a small superficial abrasion on the right side of her nostril. This can be caused by the dry nose situation that you described earlier or from a traumatic event. You can try applying either Vasoline or Bag balm on her nostrils to keep them moisturized. However, typically most dogs don’t require this unless they are older senior dogs or have a skin condition (ie Lupus). Best wishes and take care.

Yes you can use Vaseline (A and D ointment works well too) but they usually just lick it off. This is mild and does not suggest to me an underlying issue. Best of luck and congratulations on the new family member!

With that location, anything you put on his nose will be licked off almost immediately, so you are correct that you want something safe. I also try to use products that are not particularly tasty, so they lick less (so I don't like coconut oil products). My favorite product is simply Vitamin E. You can poke a hole in the capsule and apply the oil directly to the area. There are some topical Vitamin E salves that are safe as well, but you have to read the ingredients carefully. Good luck! Anything you will put on a dog's nose he will lick right away, so it is usually pointless. cracked and dry nose appears mainly in dogs that tend to dig in the ground, the only solution is to prevent them from doing that.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is difficult to say from the picture for sure what it is but I would suspect this to be mostly due to the dry nose. I would recommend using a product called Biobalm by Dermoscent. You can find this online quite easily. I woyld apply this 2 to 3 times daily and see if this helps. I hope this helps! Sometimes just wiping with a warm wet cloth and drying thoroughly once per day can help with a moist dermatitis.
