My dog has white dots on her nose. What's a remedy for a dry nose?

Lesions on dog's noses can be dry skin, allergies, hyperkeratosis or autoimmune disease. At home you can try giving her an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets but it may not correct the underlying cause. This can however improve over all skin health. There are two brands of food, Royal Canin and Nutro, which are aimed at skin health and they may help as well but again, they may not affect the underlying problem. You could try using a small amount of Vaseline or Bag Balm on this area to help with the dryness - some dogs will try to rub off any topical medications that might be applied, unfortunately, so I can't say if he will leave these alone or not. Normally, using only a small amount is best, so that it doesn't feel sticky and strange to the dog :)

In your picture it looks like Theo might have mild nasal hyperkeratosis. Unfortunately there is no oral medication that I am aware of that would help this condition. I often recommend a fatty acid supplement for skin issues, and I think you could try one although it might not make much of a difference. There are some autoimmune diseases that can also cause a very dry, crusty sometimes ulcerated nose so if your veterinarian has not examined Theo for this problem I would recommend making an appointment. I see a small superficial abrasion on the right side of her nostril. This can be caused by the dry nose situation that you described earlier or from a traumatic event. You can try applying either Vasoline or Bag balm on her nostrils to keep them moisturized. However, typically most dogs don’t require this unless they are older senior dogs or have a skin condition (ie Lupus). Best wishes and take care.

Based on the picture you have provided, it appears that this could be bacterial or a skin parasite causing the lesion. The skin may need to be cultured and if a skin scraping has not been performed, I would certainly recommend having this done to make sure this is not due to a skin mite such as demodex. If this is not due to a mite and is still there, I would recommend a culture / biopsy of the area for a more definitive diagnosis. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Am is very cute! It's hard to say 100% from the pictures. The 2 possibilities are viral Papilloma, which is contagious and likes to be on the face but more so the mouth. Dogs get it from playing with other dogs at the park or from Doggie Daycare. Papillomas are white to grey and look warty. They tend to resolve with time. The other possibility is a benign histiocytoma. They are growths that appear on young dogs that spontaneously go away with in a few months. They tend to be pink and hairless, like a button. I hope this helps! Some possibilities are hyperkaratosis, an immune condition or even an infection. Treatment of all of these things are different. Some over the counter options are Snout smoother for hyperkaratosis or vitamin E or an a and D ointment or a mild immune issue. If her nose worsens or doesn't improve she should be seen by your vet.
