My dog has diarrhea but is still active and eating. What should I do?

You can try the following: Take Moose off his normal puppy food and do not feed him tonight. Tomorrow morning start feeding him white boiled rice and white boneless boiled chicken. Give several small feeds a day. Do this for a day. The next day, replace 1/4 of the rice and chicken with his regular food and feed that over several small feeds . The day after feed half and half, and then you can give the full amount of his regular food. If his diarrhea does not stop with this diet, you will need to take him to your vet for an exam. He may have a gastro-intestinal infection or have worms, if he has not been wormed yet or a long time ago.

If Chaco is otherwise still active, playful, eating, drinking, and has not been vomiting, I think it is ok to just keep an eye on him for a couple more days. Offer a bland diet (such as plain cooked chicken and white rice) and monitor his appetite and activity level. If he hasn't been dewormed in the past 4 weeks, that would also be advisable. If his stools are not looking more normal in a few days, or if at any point he starts vomiting, acting like he doesn't feel good, or the stool becomes bloody, take him to your vet. It depends on how long Tara has had diarrhea. If it's been less than 24 hours, you can try the following home remedy. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. If it's been longer than 24 hours, yes take her into the vet. I hope this helps!

It is definitely a good sign that he is eating and drinking well. Diarrhea is a common problem in animals and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). If Brody has any of the following, the he should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Dog starts acting very depressed 4) Dog stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. In addition to the medication you were given, you may try to feed your dog a bland diet of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese for 3-5 days. If his signs are not improving, or if he develops bloody diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, or a decreased appetite, then he should be evaluated by his veterinarian again as he may need additional medications.
