My dog has a runny bum and diarrhea. Is he okay? What to do?

Good morning I was just wondering my baby Hershel was throwing up and having diarrhea yesterday.today he just seems to have a runny bum.....like he can't control it.he hasn't ate anything different that I know of unless he got into something.i fed him white rice and he was fine he seems fine except for his runny bum.i can't take him to the dr till Tuesday...do you think he's ok maybe just a bug?......it seems like he wants to go but just drops of poop come out....what should I do?thank you

Poor Hershel! It's common for dogs to develop diarrhea if they eat something they are not accustomed to. It's also possible that he could have parasites (such as worms). Aside from being messy, diarrhea can lead to dehydration over time, especially if it is accompanied by vomiting. The bland diet is a great idea, and you can add boiled low-fat chicken breast for additional protein. It would be ideal to have him seen by a vet as soon as possible, especially if he becomes lethargic, continues to vomit, or develops other symptoms. I hope he feels better soon!

You can use Sudocream (or an equivaent zinc oxide cream) and keep the area clean with wet tissues.
As a first approach for the problem, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

My dog has diarrhea but is still active and eating. What should I do?

Glad to hear there is some improvement in Tuckers diarrhea. I would stop all food for 24hrs, he can continue to have water. Then reintroduce a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for 2-3 days. After that you can reintroduce the dog food. Sometime the stomach just needs a complete reset and will take a few days for the stool to return to being completely firm. If after this Tucker is still experiencing diarrhea he should be seen by his veterinarian. Hope this helps and Tucker starts feeling better soon.

If Chaco is otherwise still active, playful, eating, drinking, and has not been vomiting, I think it is ok to just keep an eye on him for a couple more days. Offer a bland diet (such as plain cooked chicken and white rice) and monitor his appetite and activity level. If he hasn't been dewormed in the past 4 weeks, that would also be advisable. If his stools are not looking more normal in a few days, or if at any point he starts vomiting, acting like he doesn't feel good, or the stool becomes bloody, take him to your vet. Why is my dog having bloody diarrhea but still eating treats?

If he is acting normal then you can withhold food for 12 hours and then offer him a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice, and see how he does with that. You could also add a probiotic to his food. If the diarrhea continues, he starts vomiting, and/or becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. He could have an infection, parasite, colitis, HGE, etc. and your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose and treat. Hope he feels better soon!

My dog has bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and poops often. What to do?

Poor Gambino! If he continues behaving normally then I would pick up his regular food and only feed him a very bland diet until your appointment - boiled skinless boneless chicken and white rice. Also I would bring a sample of his stool in for testing. If your vet is open this evening you may want to move your appointment so they can get him some medication to help with the diarrhea asap. If that is not possible and he has multiple jam-like bowel movements I would bring him in to an emergency clinic this evening. They can get dehydrated quickly with that much diarrhea. I really hope he is feeling better quickly !
