My dog has diarrhea and accidents after flying. Is it stress?

It's probably just stress related colitis. I suggest you start her on a probiotic as soon as possible. Any probiotic made for dogs is OK but personally I think Fortiflora is the best. NO human probiotics. One packet on her food daily. I would use it at least for 2 weeks straight no matter if the diarrhea clears up in a day or two. It is probably stress colitis. I suggest you give him one dose of Immodium (loperamide) if you can find it there. JUST ONE DOSE - no more; one 2mg tablet. Next, withhold all food for 8 hours to let his intestines rest. Nothing. Water is fine to have available at all times. After 8 hours, you can start feeding him small amounts of his regular food every few hours (instead of one or two larger meals he gets). Finally, if you can, get him a probiotic I would feed him that for the next 2 weeks minimum. It must be one made for dogs. No human products. Hope this helps. This could be just from the stress of travel but since it has been going on for 3 days it is probably time to have her checked out. Other causes of diarrhea include intestinal parasites, viruses, GI blockages, and many metabolic diseases. An examination by your vet should help determine the cause. Diarrhea with blood can be due to stress, or it can be from an infection or parasites. If she’s bright and alert and eating and drinking normally this should resolve quickly. If she’s lethargic, depressed, not eating well then please take her right in for an exam and treatment. They will give medication to control the diarrhea, and may check for parasites, and blood work to check for anemia and dehydration. I recommend taking her for long walks and playing with her like you normally do so she’ll relax in the new apartment. Hello, sorry to hear about Meeko. It does indeed sound like he could be dealing with a little of stress colitis. You can offer him a bland diet for the next 3-5 days consistent of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve his stools, or if he continues to have worsening urgency or blood in his stools then he may need anti-diarrhea medications and should be seen by his veterinarian. If she gets stressed out about being groomed it could be just a stress colitis. If she seems fine otherwise, withhold food for 12-24 hours, but let her have water. At the end of 12-24 hours, give her a very small amount of her regular food. If all goes well, give her a little more 30-45 minutes later, continue this way until she has had her normal meal amount. If the diarrhea continues, or if she starts vomiting, becomes lethargic, refuses food or shows any other adverse symptoms, get her in to see your vet as soon as possible.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bentley. He may be experiencing stress colitis which is diarrhea secondary to stressful events (ie. boarding, grooming, etc). When this occurs, it can resolve on its own, but other times a secondary bacterial imbalance develops in the gut. This can require an antibiotic to treat.
