My dog has watery diarrhea. Could it be stress from house work?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old

Last night my dog’s stool was loose and this morning it was liquid. Yesterday he was normal so far as activity levels. It wasn’t until after his loose still that he was a bit sleepier in the evening. This morning he ate his breakfast normally, but when I had to take him out you could tell he was in a rush and the stool was watery. I’m inclined to think it’s stress induced. We have guys working on our house and he can’t go in the backyard. So everyday has been totally different for him. Thoughts?

Hello, sorry to hear about Meeko. It does indeed sound like he could be dealing with a little of stress colitis. You can offer him a bland diet for the next 3-5 days consistent of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve his stools, or if he continues to have worsening urgency or blood in his stools then he may need anti-diarrhea medications and should be seen by his veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
