My puppy's dew claw removal site is bleeding. When should I worry?

It looks like Scooby has ripped up part of the scab. I would gently wash the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and put the Ecollar back on him. Keep them Ecollar on him until the area fully heals and there is no scab. Monitor the area, and if you see any signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus, warm to the touch), he will need to see a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It sounds like Scrappy has disturbed the healing process of his incision, and I would take him into a vet today or tomorrow to make sure he didn't remove any sutures. This incision needs to be checked out. I hope this helps.

It's difficult to tell for sure from the picture, but it looks like that's still pretty healthy tissue at his declaw site. I'm glad to see a good blood supply, and that looks like his body is trying to close the site with granulation tissue. I'd absolutely recommend continuing to try to reach your vet and have that rechecked ASAP, as it will likely be best to re-sedate Riley and place new sutures to close that wound. The most important things in the meantime are to keep that area clean, and keep Riley from causing further trauma. If Riley will let you, you can GENTLY wipe or rinse the area clean with lukewarm soapy water - use a mild dish soap such as Dawn. You should have a cone or recovery collar from your vet. Put that securely on Riley - many styles include a loop to weave his collar through so it stays on. If you don't have one (or if Riley destroyed his previous one) you can purchase them over the counter at many pet stores, such as PetCo. Another option if you don't have a cone is to put a clean sock on Riley's front feet and tape the top so they stay in place. I hope you're able to reach your vet soon to have Riley rechecked in person! In the meantime, hopefully this helps!

I would check on the bandaging every 12-24 hours to make sure it is healing and isn't showing any signs of infection. If you start to see signs of infection such as oozing debris, hot to the touch, swelling, extreme pain, or it isn't healing, it is best to bring Harley to your vet so that the area can be cleaned, examined and antibiotics/pain meds given as needed. You will also want to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Harley to prevent her from licking and chewing off the bandage as she heals.

Ouch, this sounds quite uncomfortable for Binx! I'm glad to hear that he is not bleeding, but an open wound in his paw pad makes me concerned that the lesion could become infected. While a traumatic injury or burns seem most likely to cause the lesion that you described, other immune system or endocrine issues can also cause paw pad changes. Binx should be examined by his vet today or tomorrow to assess the lesion and determine if any oral or topical medications are needed. Until you can take him to the vet, put an e-collar (cone) on Binx to prevent him from licking at the lesion. I hope that he's on the mend soon!

Hi and thanks for posting. From the picture, it looks like the declaw is bent back a bit and there appears to be a lot of redness and swelling around the base of the declaw. I do see a raised portion of the skin around the declaw. It does appear infected. I would recommend Mia see a veterinarian for this as soon as possible. If the declaw is broken, it may need to be clipped back so it can grow back normally and Mia may need to get on antibiotics for this as well. I hope this helps!

Yes, keep checking them daily and re-bandage them, but stop applying the triple antibiotic. Nothing should be put on the stitches, and you rubbing on them with this cream is interrupting the healing process. Have Bailey seen by a vet on Monday if there is still redness and bleeding. Best of luck.
