Should I reschedule my dog's dental if she's on antibiotics?

I'm sorry to hear Lexi got kennel cough. Some dogs can get GI upset on antibiotics. Metronidazole and doxycycline can be given together without an issue typically. I would hold on the doxycycline for 24 hours, continue the metronidazole and a bland diet and then restart the remainder of the doxycycline. Recommendations for dental antibiotics prophylaxis has changed for both people and pets. We no longer start pets on antibiotics unless there is a known infection like an abscess. I don’t recommend to start Luke on any antibiotics before his dental unless the veterinarian sees a valid reason on an exam prior to the dental. Rubbing omega three fatty acids on his gums once a day or a pet tooth paste can help inflammation from gingivitis in a more natural way. Hello, I just answered your first question about Monty! I would recommend to finish the antibiotics first as they may cause him to have an upset stomach. That way its not so many things at once on Monty's little tummy. Make sure to give all the medications with food. It should be fine for you to give both the Doxy and Metro at the same time. Yes, it is safe to give those medications together - and both are necessary if she has a bacterial cause of her cough in addition to a giardia infection. Medication is dosed according to weight, so the amount of medication she is receiving should be appropriate for her size. Hope this helps!
