Yes, Metronidazole is safe to give pets that are less than 6 months old. In refractory cases, it is often recommended to also treat with a dewormer (i.e. Fenbendazole). I'm sorry to hear Lexi got kennel cough. Some dogs can get GI upset on antibiotics. Metronidazole and doxycycline can be given together without an issue typically. I would hold on the doxycycline for 24 hours, continue the metronidazole and a bland diet and then restart the remainder of the doxycycline. Doxycycline can be given with metronidazole at the same time but it may be worth to double-check with your vet why Molly should be taking both. Most of the dogs that are recovering from parvo take an antibiotic, but administering two antibiotics at the same time is usually not necessary. Pet-Tinic contains vitamins, iron and cooper, it is safe to give it to Molly with the other medications.

Since parvovirus causes damage to the intestines and therefore wnables intestinal bacteria to enter the blood stream , your puppy needs to be treated with antibiotics that cover a variety of bacteria (gram positive and gram negative). Metronidazole kills those bacteria and also seems to have a positive effect on the immune system, so it is the antibiotic of choice in parvovirus infections. We always weigh up the advantages (treating the infection) vs the disadvantages (side effects) when prescribing medications, so in this case the advantages outweigh the side effects and Metronidazole is indicated. Your puppy should aslo receive fluids and pain medication. You should also try to feed it very small amounts of wet food very often in order to keep its intestines working. It is usually best to hospitalize the puppy for a few days.

Hello, I just answered your first question about Monty! I would recommend to finish the antibiotics first as they may cause him to have an upset stomach. That way its not so many things at once on Monty's little tummy. Make sure to give all the medications with food. It should be fine for you to give both the Doxy and Metro at the same time.
