My dog has a spot on his cornea. What should I do and will it heal?

It is hard to say exactly what the issue may be with Draco's eye without performing an ocular exam on him and running a few tests on the eye first, but I can offering a possibility. Spots on the cornea (clear part of the eye) itself can indicate a corneal ulcer or breaks in the cornea. These can be painful and uncomfortable. You may notice tearing or frequent discharge from the eye. Your veterinarian can diagnose a corneal ulcer with an ocular exam and a few tests. It is treatable with medication. Looks like that could be a little scar on the cornea (clear part of the front of the eye). If he is actively seeming bothered by it, please take him to your vet in case he has corneal ulcer currently. If it is not bothering him now, it could be a scar from a small corneal ulcer he had in the past. It could also be a lipid or cholesterol deposit, though those are usually very central on the cornea. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is extremely difficult to say what is going on with Jules's eye. Eyes need to be examined with an ophthalmoscope in order to get a good view. Just looking at a photo from one angle is not enough. I cannot tell if the issue is on the cornea or actually inside the eye. It is best to have him examined in person by your vet so they can use the ophthalmoscope to get a good look. If it is on the cornea then it may be just a scar from a previous injury (one you may not have even noticed). It could also be what is called a "Florida spot". If it is inside the eye it could be an iris cyst or even an iris melanoma. Again, I really cannot tell from a photo. It is not an emergency but try to get Jules to your vet in the next week or so. It's a little difficult to tell from the pictures which layer of the eye the opacity is in, but I will discus the most common reasons for an opacity in the outermost aspect of the eye (the cornea). The first possibility is that if Lily had an ulceration of her eye, that the area could have scarred in which will result in tissue that is more white. I would have expected that you would have noticed that here eye was red, or she was squinting or tearing if that were the case. The most common reason that a corneal opacity will appear without any injury to the eye is actually a benign fat or cholesterol deposit. We don't know why some dogs develop them, but they tend to develop them in the other eye over time as well. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Lily to verify that is what they think is going on. If that is the case, then there isn't any reason for concern. If Lily's eye is red or if she is squinting or rubbing her eye, please have your vet examine her right away. I hope that was helpful and answered your question. Hello, yes you definitely need to take him to your vet to get it checked, it's most likely a corneal ulcer, this can happen due to an injury or eye infection, often it can get worse and even cause blindness in that eye, it needs to be treated with special eye drops

If you could please repost with a picture of your pets eyes so that we can visualize this white spot that would help us a ton in providing our recommendation for Shiro moving foward. In general a white spot can indicate a corneal ulcer in most situations, which usually also causes eye discharge, redness of the sclera (white part of the eye), and discomfort (pawing at the face). Several things are possible- He could be suffering from a corneal scratch/ulcer either due to an eye injury or an eyelid problem called entropion. This is where the eyelids roll in towards the eye causing corneal irritation, itching, and corneal damage. Another possibility would be a severe bacterial infection of the eyelids and surrounding skin or even a mite infection. Eyes are very special sense organs and eye problems can deteriorate very quickly. Your vet can gather a history, perform an exam and then advise diagnostic/treatment plans. Possible tests include corneal eye stain, measure pressure inside the eye, tear test, skin scrape (looking for mites), etc. Once a diagnosis is made, a sound treatment plan can be implemented. The swelling of the eyelids may need to go down before an assessment can be made about eyelid conformation. If entropion is discovered, surgery will be advised to correct the anatomical defect. Get him evaluated today. He may have corneal damage and that can impact his vision long term. Good luck
