What is this discharge-like spot on my dog's eye that won't go away?

It's a little difficult to tell from the pictures which layer of the eye the opacity is in, but I will discus the most common reasons for an opacity in the outermost aspect of the eye (the cornea). The first possibility is that if Lily had an ulceration of her eye, that the area could have scarred in which will result in tissue that is more white. I would have expected that you would have noticed that here eye was red, or she was squinting or tearing if that were the case. The most common reason that a corneal opacity will appear without any injury to the eye is actually a benign fat or cholesterol deposit. We don't know why some dogs develop them, but they tend to develop them in the other eye over time as well. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Lily to verify that is what they think is going on. If that is the case, then there isn't any reason for concern. If Lily's eye is red or if she is squinting or rubbing her eye, please have your vet examine her right away. I hope that was helpful and answered your question. Hello. From this picture that could be a small scar, could be a small bit of hair loss from many causes (scratching, infection, etc), could be inflammation of the gland, or could just be a wart or something. I would just keep an eye on it and if it bothers him or grows or changes, or if he starts squinting, to have it seen by a vet. Good luck with him!

Hello. Yes, because the scar is on the cornea, as the cornea moves so does the scar. The scar may become less obvious with time, but there will probably always be some sort of spot there. It's hard to tell if that is a hair or problem with the cornea/lens. If it is new or changing, it would be best to have a vet take a look at it -- they can stain it with a special dye to check if it is a cut or abrasion and requires treatment.

Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. It is hard to say exactly what the issue may be with Draco's eye without performing an ocular exam on him and running a few tests on the eye first, but I can offering a possibility. Spots on the cornea (clear part of the eye) itself can indicate a corneal ulcer or breaks in the cornea. These can be painful and uncomfortable. You may notice tearing or frequent discharge from the eye. Your veterinarian can diagnose a corneal ulcer with an ocular exam and a few tests. It is treatable with medication. Hello. This appears to be corneal edema, which essentially causes thickening of cornea resulting in a decrease in clarity. I would revisit about this with your veterinarian as over time, corneal edema may lead to recurrent or chronic corneal erosions. A thorough ocular examination should be done, including measurement of intraocular pressures, fluorescein staining, a Schirmer tear test, & examination of intraocular structures to look for any underlying causes, including the possible use of the medication you are now using in the eye.
