Why is my rescue dog's cloudy eye clearing up but still cloudy?

This depends entirely on what the cloudiness is from. If it is from inflammation then generally I see the cloudiness begin improving after a week or two. If it is cataracts or lenticular sclerosis then it will likely never go away. Inflammation of the eye can cause this cloudy appearance and once the infection or other cause is treated, it usually improves. My longest case I've had took 3 months to resolve entirely. Blue and cloudy discoloration could be due to an inflammation and accumulation of fluid in the anterior chamber of the eye. It is impossible for us to tell whether the eye is improving or not as a physical examination would be needed. After surgery a certain grade of inflammation is expected anyway. I would recommend a check up to make sure there is no deterioration of the corneal indolent ulcer.

Cloudy eyes should always constitute an emergency vet visit. Since you know there is possible trauma, there could be an abrasion or corneal ulcer, something stuck under an eyelid, a hole in the cornea, or severe inflammation. I would have to examine the eye in-person, but it appears that Nala has corneal edema causing the cloudiness. This happens with trauma to the eye and infections. It is not a permanent change, but if there is enough damage it can form a scar. It's best to have Nala rechecked by your vet. They can stain the eye and look for any evidence of ulceration, or infection. I hope that helps and Nala gets better soon.

Depending on the specific part of the eye that looks cloudy, this could be caused by glaucoma, a corneal scratch or ulcer, a severe eye infection, or cataracts. I would definitely recommend taking Hurah in to see a vet as soon as you are able to. He/she can examine the eye using a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
