My dog has cloudy eyes. How long until they clear? Is Terramycin good?

Cloudy eyes are caused by inflammation. Sometimes it is permanent and some times it is temporary, such as with a wound. It is good that they are getting clearer, as that means the pain is receding. Scar tissue will look a little more white than cloudy, and that may be what is happening now.

Whenever there is an injury to the eye it is very important to have your vet examine the eye to see if there is an abrasion or possibly even a rupture of the cornea. If this is the case, treatment options are very different as is the prognosis of saving the eye. If the Terramycin was from a previous injury it may or may not be appropriate to use this time. Also, if it has been more than 30 days since it was last used it should be discarded. Since the eye is such a delicate structure, I strongly recommend you take Thumper to your veterinarian for an examination.

Coco is adorable! As long as the eye is improving, then I would continue using the medication. Normally, I have clients continue using eye ointment until I can examine the eye again to make sure that it is completely healed before stopping the medication. Poor Yoda. That I does look cloudy from the pictures but I can only see so much. I am assuming that TobraDex is actually Tobramycin ophthalmic antibiotic. And since you did not mention any other medications, I will also assume that this is the only medication you are using. I believe that Yoda should be taken back to the veterinarian as soon as you can. The reason being is that two days with and wait meant applied as often as you are applying should be causing this all right to almost be back to normal by now. My concern is that there may be something else that needs to be added to your treatment regimen. for instance, maybe you have a possible infection in the eye that is resistant to the Tobramycin. or maybe there is a lot of inflammation and an anti-inflammatory medication needs to be added. But I would not wait any longer to go back into the veterinarian and have them do an ophthalmic examination again. You may want to check for another corneal stain, tear test, fundic exam, etc. I hope that you guys are able to get Yoda’s Eye on the road to recovery.

It depends on what the cause is of the cloudiness is. I would be concerned about glacoma, which is usually treated with eye drops (and sometimes surgery). I'm not sure what they might be treating with injections, but every doctor is different. I'd recommend asking that disease they are treat for, if there are other possible causes (and how to test for those/rule those out) and how long treatment should take and when you need to change course. Poor Hurah! I can't see his eye very well in this photo, but any cloudiness is always cause for concern. Depending on the specific part of the eye that looks cloudy, this could be caused by glaucoma, a corneal scratch or ulcer, a severe eye infection, or cataracts. I would definitely recommend taking Hurah in to see a vet as soon as you are able to. He/she can examine the eye using a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

I couldn't tell you what the prognosis is without examining the eye myself but it can be a long process of healing, you need to carry on with the treatment until the problem resolves hopefully. other that the treatment you have been given there is nothing else you need or can do to make it better.
