Why are my dog's eyes cloudy when I shine a light on them at night?

Dogs eyes look cloudy at night? Its kinda like the reflection of light u see in a dogs eyes when u shine light on it except it looks cloudy you can only see it at night none of my other dogs eyes look clouded at night

Cloudiness in a two-year-old dog’s eyes is unusual. There can be many causes for cloudiness, from diseases that affect the lens of the eye to diseases that affect the cornea. I recommend to have Marley see his veterinarian to make sure that everything is OK. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Glaucoma will need to be diagnosed by your veterinarian after a physical exam and diagnostics.
The cloudiness may indicate either infection or injury. Either will need to be confirmed and treated by your veterinarian.

The fogging you describe is not normal at such a young age and the squinting and blinking indicates eye pain. I recommend an urgent veterinary assessment, preferably by referral to an ophthalmologist. Urgent pain relief should be prescribed to relieve the discomfort whilst the cause is being identified

Cloudy eyes are a sign of inflammation that can be seen secondary to infection, autoimmune disease, corneal degenerative disease or elevated pressure in the eye (glaucoma). You should have your pet evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Depending on the specific part of the eye that looks cloudy, this could be caused by glaucoma, a corneal scratch or ulcer, a severe eye infection, or cataracts. I would definitely recommend taking Hurah in to see a vet as soon as you are able to. He/she can examine the eye using a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

Any haze over the cornea or in the eye is a great concern, as it indicates there has been some trauma or there is some ongoing disease happening in the eye. It is very important that you have Shiloh seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, not only to prevent further & permanent damage to the eye, but to make sure he is not in pain. It sounds like your dog may have cataracts, which can occur as dog’s age or with diseases like Diabetes. Lily could have cataracts causing this cloudy pupil, but it could also be due to an eye infection or glaucoma. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Lily seen by a vet immediately, who can diagnose what is causing her cloudy pupil and can discuss treatment options with you.

My dog's eye suddenly has a milky white film. What should I do?

Poor Shelby! Unfortunately, the photos here are quite blurry so it's hard to see exactly what's going on. You're right that glaucoma is a common cause of a milky "film" on the surface of the eye. Other possibilities would include localized corneal edema due to a corneal scratch or ulcer, or even some type of corneal dystrophy (mineralization or fat deposits in the cornea). Eye problems should always be seen and treated the same day, if possible, since in some cases waiting can lead to permanent damage or vision loss. So if you can, I would recommend taking Shelby to an emergency vet today for an exam. The vet there can take a close look at her eye with a bright light in a dark room, and may also use a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem.

Poor Hank! It could be he has a serious eye infection leading to this cloudiness, squinting, and trouble seeing. He could have also injured his eye. It's very concerning this just happened overnight, and any problem with the eye should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My 14-year-old dog has cloudy eyes and hearing issues. What tests?

There are some tests a veterinarian can perform to assess hearing and vision, however these are based on observation. You can make a noise behind Brandi to see if she reacts. You can drop something small and soft, like a cotton ball, in front of her to see if she responds. With age lenticular sclerosis, or a cloudiness of the lens is common in dogs, however we always want to make sure cloudiness isn't due to the formation of a cataract which can be associated with diabetes.
