My dog got chlorine water and mold in eye. What are the symptoms?

Concentrated chlorhexidine can be very irritant for the eye. Usually one of these signs is present corneal opacity, increased discharge, increased blinking, conjunctival swelling and redness. The onset is acute and an immediate check up is required to confirm clinical suspicion.

Watch for redness, swelling, discharge from the eye, or Zoe keeping her eye closed a lot. Also watch for rubbing her eye. If you see any of those signs, get her into a vet immediately. She may be ok, however.

Corneal damage is sometimes visibly noticeable by a cloudiness or haziness over the surface of the eye. However, sometimes if the affected area is very small it will not create this appearance. The only way to determine the presence of damage corneal tissue with certainty is with a stain. Staining is placed in the eye and that subjected to a special spectrum of light that checks to see if the stain binds to the damaged portion of the cornea. This is typically a procedure that can be done at any veterinarian.

It could be secondary to an infection, allergy, or irritant. You could try an eye lubricant, such as GenTeal drops, and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.

Dogs (especially Malinois) usually hate this, so you're going to need some help. I recommend having one person get a good hold of Koda's body, while the other person holds the head and flushes the eye. Repeat the flush twice a day as needed. The flush time can be reduced to 20 seconds if the eye is showing signs of improvement. You can continue the warm compress three times a day. This should heal within a week. If it gets worse or does not get better after a week, then she should go to the vet, because there may be an infection.
