My dog got my pink eye Q-tip. Will he get sick or catch my pink eye?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Wiski! Yes! A viral or bacterial conjunctivitis or allergies is the most common cause for his signs. There are contagious doggie "pink eye" that they get from doggie daycare or playing with other dogs. It is best for your Vet to examine Wiskie and prescribe eye safe drops or ointment. Hello. While it is very unlikely that your dog will contract any infectious disease by licking the eyes of the blind dog, I would try & discourage this. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Cookie yelped and vomited following her ear cleaning. The inside of dogs' ears is very sensitive, and we NEVER recommend cleaning their ears with Q-tips, for risk of causing damage to the ear drum (tympanic membrane). As long as she is acting normally at home (no head tilt, not ear scratching or head shaking, eating/drinking/urinating and defecating normally), she will likely be OK! From now on, please only ever clean her ears gently with a dry cotton ball, and only clean the visible, external portion of the ear canal. I hope this is helpful!

Probably not. The tear film and constant flushing of the eyes with tears should wash away any infection from simply touching a gross thing. If Zoe starts squinting or having eye discharge, it would be best to have her evaluated by a vet.

You are unlikely to get an eye infection and there are some diseases and parasite that dogs can pass to be people, but this not something you need to worry about. If her ears are not better after a week of medication she will need a recheck though.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you are talking about the skin around her eye, I wouldn’t be worried. It looks like her normal skin coloring. The other eye has brown pigment around it instead of pink. If the whites of the globe of her eyes are pink you can try rinsing the eyes with saline solution- you may have gotten hair in them. If they continue to stay pink or you notice her scratching I would see an emergency vet to look for a scratch. Delaying treatment could make things worse and be more costly to treat. Dogs can certainly get infection of their conjunctiva which is pinkeye. However this could indicate an upper respiratory tract infection or something wrong with the eye it's self which is more concerning. It would be best to have Rocko examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible to make sure that eye is OK. If it is a short course of a topical ointment maybe all that is needed. However if the eye is involved or there's an infection he will likely need antibiotics. You should stop him from pawing or rubbing at the eye as well as keeping the discharge cleared with a warm washcloth until he can see a veterinarian.
