My dog has red, droopy eyes, and one is shut. Could it be pink eye?

Yes I would be worried, as the eye discharge can be a sign of an eye infection. In addition, Rocky may be eating less because he feels unwell. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would have Rocky seen by a vet as soon as possible for both his eyes and loss of appetite. Once the cause of these is diagnosed, the vet can prescribe treatmen

I recommend taking Roan to a vet so they can examine his eyes to look for a scratch or ulcer. This isn’t always seen with a naked eye. If so, the medications to treat change. If not, they can determine the best treatment to help soothe his itchy eyes. Good luck and kisses to Roan!

Eye infection is one of the possibilities. However, conjunctivitis (viral or bacterial) usually affects both eyes. Excessive discharge from one eye can be related to trauma or scratch to the eyebulb, blocked up tear duct, third eyelid problem etc. If Rocco has had the discharge for the last week, you should take him to your local vet to have a full examination of the eye. That will show what is going on and the right treatment can be recommended.

Poor Rockie! The swelling around his lower eyelids is quite prominent and could be related to an allergic reaction, infection, or irritation from the lesion on his upper eyelid. Rockie should be examined by his vet to determine if there are any changes within the eye itself, including infection or corneal ulceration from irritation. Based upon exam findings, your vet will be able to prescribe any necessary eye medications, anti-inflammatories, or antihistamines. If Rockie is rubbing his eye, be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on him until his vet visit to prevent further trauma to the eye. I hope that he's on the mend soon!

I highly recommend that you have Rocky evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Rocky could have injured his eye or has a severe eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet today.

Thanks for posting! Oh dear-it sounds like Rocko has a upper respiratory infection! Possible causes may be bordetella infection (kennel cough), canine influenza, or canine distemper virus. I would highly recommend Rocko be taken to his nearest veterinarian today or tomorrow for an exam and antibiotics at the very least. Rocko may be IV fluids and other supportive medications as needed.
