What to do if my dog ate too many calming pills or supplements?

I think the worst that will happen is some mild GI upset like vomiting and/or diarrhea - both of which should be self-limiting (meaning they should go away on their own within 48 hours). If they don't, then he needs to see a vet. He may be more tired than normal but not comatose so if he is sleeping and you can't get a reaction out of him then you need to get him to a vet ASAP. I recommend no food for 8-12 hours but be sure he has plenty of water available. These treats don't really contain anything toxic at large doses but remember, every dog reacts differently to medications/supplements just like people so if, at any time, you are worried about him you need to have him examined by a vet.

Hello, thank you for your question about Maggie. Based on my research on these chews I do not believe that Maggie will experience any significant side effects. The chews contain natural calming substances such as B vitamins, etc. You are correct in that she may experience some stomach upset. If you do notice that she becomes quite sedate/lethargic or is having difficulty walking I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps!

A one time ingestion of this higher dose wouldn't be expected to cause any toxic effects. Your dog may be a little sleepier than usual. If he develops any other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, extreme lethargy or weakness then seek veterinary care.

If it has been less than 2 hours since your pet ingested the foreign material, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than two hours and it will have already moved into the intestines. Generally, even without the induction of vomiting, your dog is likely to have diarrhea and other intestinal upset from eating so much fish oil at once. Be aware that one of the effects of fish oil in the body is to act as a blood thinner. I have seen dogs ingest much more than your dog did and do fine, but if your dog becomes lethargic, loses her appetite, starts vomiting, please get her seen by your vet right away.

I am sorry to hear that your pet ingested some of your diet pills. Even though the diet pills are from plant extract, you never know if this could potentially be harmful for your pet. This is not a toxic dose for a 15 pound dog. That being said, it could still upset his stomach. He could show signs anytime in the next 48 hours. If he starts to seem sick you should take him to your vet ASAP. I suggest you feed him 1/2 a piece of bread that will help coat the tablet and pull it through his GI tract. No other food for 6 hours. Depending on how many they ate your dogs may do fine, may have excessive sedation or may have neurological side effects. As they cannot be examined by a veterinarian there's nothing at home you can do to prevent any side effects, if they are going to have any.
