My dog ate my natural plant-based diet pills. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 44 lbs

I have an English bull dog who happened to get into my dietary pills and I estimate he swollowed about 22. The packaging states they are 100% natural from extracts of plants. What can I do ?

I am sorry to hear that your pet ingested some of your diet pills. Even though the diet pills are from plant extract, you never know if this could potentially be harmful for your pet. I would recommend calling pet poison helpline to talk with a toxicologist and determine what, if any, treatment is recommended to care for you pet. There are certainly plants that are toxic to dogs, so without knowing the exactly ingredients of your dietary pills, I can't say if Mclovin will be ok or not. You are a few options. The best option would be to make him into a vet immediately to get a shot to include vomiting if he ate them within the past two hours. It's best to have them out of his system. You can call the APSCA Poison hotline at (888) 426-4435 with the name of the dietary pills and ingredients, and they can advise you further. There is a fee for it. Finally, you can request a consult with an expert online at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach, and they can go over the ingredients with you, and they can advise you further.

What to do if my dog ate too many calming pills or supplements?

If she just ate them (within the last 30 minutes or so) then you can induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide - 2 tablespoons. Hopefully she will vomit them up. If it has been longer than 30 minutes then you should take her to the vet. She may have no side effects or she may have some GI or neurological symptoms. There is no way to predict how a certain animal will react.

My dog ate my Wellbutrin pills. Is it an emergency? What should I do?

Without knowing the number of milligrams your dog may have ingested, it's difficult to give you specific advice other than seek immediate veterinary care. Wellbutrin is toxic to dogs at doses as low as 10 mg/kg. I'd guess an average weight for a male pit bull to be about 50-60 pounds, or 22 to 27 kilos. If he ate 220mg or more, he may have a toxicity. I recommend taking him in to your vet (or an emergency vet) so that vomiting can be induced and activated charcoal given to absorb whatever is left in the Gi tract, and he can be monitored for reaction.
