My dog suddenly has big bumps on her head. Is it an allergic reaction?

If these bumps appears on Bella recently in the last few hours, then these could be hives, insect sting or bite, or a mild skin irritation. It is hard to say for sure without seeing Bella in person. If they are very itchy and persist or seem to really bother her, I would seek care for Bella with her veterinarian soon to have these evaluated.

If these just arose out of nowhere I would be concerned they are hives and she is having an allergic reaction. Since they are on her face, I would consider this an emergency, so it would be recommended to take her in to the emergency clinic right away, where they can give her a shot of benadryl and a steroid shot to stop the reaction. In severe cases of allergic reactions the face can continue to swell and the swelling can extend to the airway, becoming life threatening, and we don't want that to happen!

It looks like Boo could be suffering from an allergic reaction causing hives. The problem with an allergic reaction is that it can quickly progress to swelling of the face and snout, leading to respiratory distress. I would take her into a vet immediately to get treatment for the hives. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poo Chevy! It is likely that the bumps are hives and Chevy is suffering from an allergic reaction. Sometime we never know the inciting cause but insects or environmental allergens are the most common, unless he is receiving medications or was recently vaccinated (in the last 24 hours). The standard treatment for hives is benadryl and steroids. Ideally you should have him seen by your Vet. Hello. Vegas is having a pretty significant allergic reaction to something. It could be something she ate, touched, inhaled, or was bitten or stung by. The hives will probably go down on their own, but the discoloration in her groin is the result of Vegas licking & chewing her skin. This will probably not just go away by itself, & may get worse. This is not a life-threatening situation & there are many things that can be done to help her. Until you can have Vegas seen by your veterinarian, you can bathe her in a mild oatmeal based shampoo using cool water. You can start her on a fish oil supplement & at her weight, you can give her 1000-1200 mg twice a day. Hi, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From your pictures it appears that Kona may have hives. Monitor her closely for any other signs of illness. If she vomits any more, the bumps spread or get bigger, or she has any other itching she should go to an emergency clinic. Any coughing or swelling of her face and she needs to be treated immediately. She may have gotten stung or bitten by an insect or having a reaction to a plant in the grass. In some cases, giving a dose benedryl can help. I hope Kona is feeling better soon.
