My dog has bloody, hard stool and is stressed. When to see a vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old | 48 lbs

My dog has 2 small streaks of blood in her stool. Her stool was hard and crumbly. Overall she is otherwise healthy. Has a good appetite. She did vomit up some bike yesterday. I know she is stressed since we are moving this weekend and her routine is a bit off

If her feaces were hard, it could be that the blood is from straining to pass the poo. Maybe feaces were harder because of vomiting and being slightly dehydrated. As you say, she probably senses the move and the stress, I would recommend to monitor her for the time being but see a vet if blood persisting or if worried.

Blood in the stool could be a sign of a gastrointestinal disease such as gastritisor pancreatitis. It could also be due to parasites or, as you suggested stress. You should get Callie checked out by a veterianarian within the next day or two to determine the underlying cause of this and obtain appropriate treatment. I would recommend you not wait more than about 2 days to get Callie to a vet.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Callie Cat. Her symptoms sound very serious. Such frequent vomiting and stool with blood is a concern for many possible illnesses, including infection, liver or kidney disease, pancreatitis, thyroid disease, parasites, or even cancer. I would suggest taking her to your family vet as soon as possible. They will likely recommend blood work and x-rays as an initial first step to help pinpoint the diagnosis. My dog has bloody stool after food change. Should I wait or see a vet?

I am so sorry that your pet Debo is having blood in his stool. If the blood has occurred more than a few times, or if she is in any way acting abnormal, then it is highly recommended to take her to your vet to get checked. Bloody stool can be caused by things like stress, intestinal parasites, diet change, or more serious things like a bleeding disorder, pancreatitis, etc. If the pet is ever acting ill and has blood, then this is considered to be an urgent matter in need of medical attention. You can try a propbiotic as well to help restore his normal bacterial flora. Over the counter Culturelle or Fortiflora purchased through Chewy.com can be used. My dog has diarrhea with clumpy blood. When should I see a vet?

It can be a response to stress if there has been a change in diet or routine or caregivers or it can be a sign of an infection or pancreatitis. Anytime there is bloody diarrhea, especially in a small dog, it is recommended to see a vet as soon as your can to start treatment. My yorkipoo has diarrhea with blood. When should I see a vet?

When there is blood in the stool I do become a little more concerned. I would recommend a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice, however I would still recommend an examination with a veterinarian tomorrow. That being said if he had a very bloody stool tonight, one that looks like raspberry jam, then he should be seen immediately. If he is developing a problem called HGE they can get very sick very quickly. If he starts vomiting that also increases my concern. I hope he improves quick.

My dog ate toilet paper, has bloody stool & white foam vomit. Vet?

Toilet paper should pass, but may cause some digestive upset or cause blockage of the bowels if enough was eaten. That said, blood from the stomach is usually dark red or black, and blood from the rectum/anus is a brighter red color. If Brie has eaten any new treats or foods, that can also affect stool color. If the red stool and vomit only occurred once after eating the toilet paper, I would continue to monitor Brie for any other signs of a blockage, These include continued vomiting and diarrhea, blood in either still, hunched or tender abdomen, bloated abdomen, not wanting to eat or drink, or attempting to vomit or defecate without success, as these are all signs of a medical emergency. You may also want to offer a bland diet for a few days to help with any minor digestive upset. Boiled chicken and rice is an easy option on the stomach. If you suspect a blockage, the symptoms continue, or Brie isn't improving, vet care ASAP is best.
