My dog ate toilet paper, has bloody stool & white foam vomit. Vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 14 lbs

Possible blood in pet stool? My small dog got into some toilet paper recently. We are currently not in the financial position to take her into the vet but in the case of an emergency I will find a way. She got into the tp almost a week ago and I've been watching her potties closely since then. Typically they are normal but recently she's had one other concerning me besides this one. There was also some white foam vomit? She's active and eating and drinking normally. Should I run her in?

Toilet paper should pass, but may cause some digestive upset or cause blockage of the bowels if enough was eaten. That said, blood from the stomach is usually dark red or black, and blood from the rectum/anus is a brighter red color. If Brie has eaten any new treats or foods, that can also affect stool color. If the red stool and vomit only occurred once after eating the toilet paper, I would continue to monitor Brie for any other signs of a blockage,

These include continued vomiting and diarrhea, blood in either still, hunched or tender abdomen, bloated abdomen, not wanting to eat or drink, or attempting to vomit or defecate without success, as these are all signs of a medical emergency.

You may also want to offer a bland diet for a few days to help with any minor digestive upset. Boiled chicken and rice is an easy option on the stomach. If you suspect a blockage, the symptoms continue, or Brie isn't improving, vet care ASAP is best.

Blood in the feces can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. If this continues, I recommend that you have Sami evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. My 9-year-old dog vomited, now has bright red bloody stool. Emergency?

Bright red blood in the feces is not normal, and could be caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a foreign body, eating something rotten, or cancer. Given Cody's age and the fact that he was vomiting previously, it would be best for him to see an emergency vet in my opinion.

My dog ate toilet paper and is trying to poop but nothing comes out.

There is a possibility that Loki has an intestinal obstruction caused by the toilet paper. This is an emergency and he needs to be seen by your vet today or be taken to a veterinary clinic or pet ER. He will likely be hospitalised and x-rayed (with or without contrast), and observed while on iv fluids to hopefully watch him pass the paper with feces. The paper would likely dry out the feces and then he may be constipated and there is a chance that with fluid supplementation he may be able to pass the obstruction especially since toilet paper dissolves easily. However one can not rely on that, so there is also a chance that he will need surgery if the matter does not pass and obstructs the intestine.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Kalua is still acting sick, straining to pass stool, vomitting or not eating you may need to take him to the vet. A paper towel by itself probably wouldn't cause an obstruction but if there was grease on it or he ate something else he could have gastritis, pancreatitis or an obstruction. If he is acting more normal today, feed a bland diet such as chicken and rice for a couple of days (Plain, no fat, skin, bones or seasoning). But if he continues to vomit or not eat, has diarrhea or constipation he should be seen by his vet. I hope he feels better soon.

My dog is vomiting blood and mucus. Should I take her to the vet?

Poor Lady! Eating tissue paper should not normally cause any significant issues unless she ate a very large amount, so this is probably not related. Vomiting blood is always a very serious concern, so I would recommend taking Lady to the vet right away for an exam. She may have internal bleeding due to a stomach ulcer or foreign body, a GI illness such as pancreatitis or HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis), or may have gotten into something toxic. Your vet can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment right away.

Vomiting and bloody stools can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. If he is having seizures that make this very serious as this is possibly unrelated and could be seen with conditions such as low blood sugar from vomiting, brain inflammation, epilepsy, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Bruno evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics and possibly an MRI. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration.
