Why is my dog leaking bloody discharge and vomiting after meds?

Your poor pup! If she isn't spayed, I would be very concerned that she has a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment, and it would cause a white discharge as well as vomiting. It sounds like your vet may have been suspicious she had a pyometra and tried treating it medically with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately the medical route often isn't successful, and surgery is needed to treat it. This means spaying her. I would take her back into the vet immediately, as this is a medical emergency. Unfortunately, a uterine infection can become a common secondary issue with what you are describing. I would recommend having her re-checked by her regular veterinarian to ensure that everything is improving, and she wouldn't need to be spayed to resolve the issue. Good luck!

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I highly recommend that you have Tack evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes blood in the vomit can be seen with things like gastrointestinal ulceration which can occur secondary to medications, especially prednisone which is a commonly used medication for allergies. If this seems like a possibility, they would start her on medications for an ulcer. Good luck! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oddie. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. Bloody discharge is worrisome especially as it has continued to occur. His veterinarian will ask more detailed questions and may recommend laboratory work to determine the source of the bleeding. You can take pictures as well as this may help. The bleeding could come from vomit, nasal discharge, diarrhea or from his urinary tract. Regardless, he will need treatment. I hope this information helps!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach if Izzy has a pyometra or uterine infection she needs to be spayed ASAP. This can be a fatal turn right on Rio Grande St. infection leading to sepsis turn left on superior and death if left untreated. While antibiotics can decrease signs It will typically not fully clear the infection, which will cotinue to recur and worsen. If Izzy has a foul smelling bloody discharge she needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible.

I it may be a reaction to the medication or there could have been something else alreadybtherr that just didn’t show it self yet such as an infection. If you are displeased with your vet then you can seek a second opinion but i would give the vet a call or schedule a recheck to see if they want to change medications or do blood work to address the vomiting now. Since there is blood in the vomit I would recommend getting him rechecked to make sure it does not continue and he doesn’t get dehydrated from it

With this much vomiting I would be worried about the possibility of Penelope eating something she shouldn't have, such as a toy or other foreign material, which could have caused a blockage or obstruction of her intestines. The topical flea and tick medication should not cause her to vomit. I recommend offering Penelope a small amount of boiled chicken and rice, and see if she tolerates this. If she vomits this up and/or cannot even keep water down, she should be seen by your veterinarian for x-rays. If she can eat a small amount of this bland diet, I recommend feeding this boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days and slowly transitioning her back to her usual diet. I hope this is helpful!
