Why is my dog vomiting blood after taking vet prescribed medicine?

I would continue at the dose of 1 tablet every 12 hours and taper off as prescribed by your vet. This medication may not be the cause of the vomiting, though, and if it continues tomorrow I would take Patsy to the vet for a recheck. Sometimes vomiting can cause irritation to the esophagus and you may see a tiny amount of blood. However, if she continues vomiting and the amount of blood seems like it is getting bigger, she should see a vet immediately. You might take her food away for 12 hours to help with nausea, though she should be encouraged to drink water or pedialyte.

Sometimes blood in the vomit can be seen with things like gastrointestinal ulceration which can occur secondary to medications, especially prednisone which is a commonly used medication for allergies. If she is still vomiting despite the medications then yes, you should be worried. I think you need to take her back to the vet for x-rays and blood testing. She could have an intestinal obstruction which can be very serious.

It sounds as Enzo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently as vomiting blood is a serious symptom, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

When there is evidence of blood in the vomit, that raises concern for things like a gastrointestinal ulcer, gastrointestinal tumor, severe gastroenteritis, foreign body ingestion, among other possibilities. Some tests that are usually run include bloodwork (CBC and chemistry panel +/- coagulation profile) and abdominal ultrasound. Thoracic/cervical/ abdominal adiographs may follow. I'm sorry to hear Maggie is vomiting. That is on the higher end of the dose range that dogs can tolerate for aspirin, and one of the known side effects to it can be GI upsets and ulcers. Her vomiting could also be unrelated to the aspirin and due to another underlying issue. I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for her vomiting, have any necessary testing done (X-rays) and get started on any treatment (anti-nausea medication, antacid, bland diet, GI protectant) that may be needed.
