My dog has a bloody eye. Is it serious and what should I do?

My boerboel has bloodied eye..not sure how he got it....is he ok

A bloodied eye is never ok. You should take Maxi to your vet right away to check the eye and make sure it wasn't completely punctured. He likely had some trauma to the eye and hopefully it isn't too serious (depending on a complete eye exam) and can be treated right away before the eye gets infected or any permanent vision problems develop. I would not recommend placing anything in the eye until further exam by your vet.

It could just be hair loss from eye discharge accumulating there on the skin below the eye or it could be from scratching. I don't think it is an emergency. I would give it some time to see if it goes away or gets worse. If it gets worse at any time then you should definitely have a vet check it. For right now you can just use this Vetericyn eye gel in the eyes and on that spot. It may help with any allergens that may be in the eye and is safe to use on the skin around the eyes.

It appears she has black eye. It is safest to have her check by a vet to make sure there are no scratches on the eye and it can still close completely to prevent a dry eye. They may also be able to prescribe pain medication

Based on the picture it does look like there could be blood inside his eye, which is called hyphema. It likely means there is inflammation present within the eye, which could be related to the original injury. If he has vision problems in that eye or its painful (squinting, tearing, or pawing at it), I would definitely take him back to the vet. They will likely want to check the pressure within the eye and look at his retina. He may need drops to help with the inflammation.

The one picture looks similar to a scleral hematoma, but the other picture looks like something is going on in the cornea. The cornea can be an emergency situation if there is an ulcer present. What is this bleeding eye growth on my senior dog? Vet urgent?

Ouch! I would have the growth checked out by your vet to figure out what it is and get it treated. Until you can get to the vet, you can place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Max to keep him from pawing at it and making it more irritated. You can also use a clean washcloth to gently remove any debris if there is buildup. If the area becomes rapidly worse, or is very bothersome to Max, having it seen sooner is best.

My dog's eye is bleeding and now has a milky spot. Is it serious?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m not surprised at the progression in Gracie’s eye- the cloudy spot is likely a clot from the blood. Based on location I’m guessing this was trauma (whacked her head playing or running, fighting with another dog, etc etc). However, it’s impossible to tell without an eye exam exactly which compartment of the eye that clot is in. My concern is that if it’s in the front chamber of the eye, it could signal uveitis- which in turn can hint at serious systemic disease (fungal infections, tick borne diseases, etc.). Long story short, I’d have the vet check it out to make sure it’s not something we should be more worried about. Best of luck to you and Gracie!

My puppy's eye is bleeding after a dog fight. What should I do?

Poor Blacky. If at all possible, Blacky needs to go to an emergency clinic right now. This could be as minor as a skin scrap, or as severe as a ruptured eyeball. If you are unable to get to an emergency clinic, use a warm wash cloth to clean off his face and get to a vet as soon as possible if he's squinting or his eye looks odd in any way. Eye issues are almost always very painful and can result in blindness if not treated very quickly. Good luck! I hope Blacky is feeling better soon. My dog has blood in her eye and an enlarged spleen. Is it serious?

I would highly recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible. Bleeding in the eye can be due to local trauma to the eye but also can be connected to underlying disease like toxin (rat poison), bleeding disorders, cancer, high blood pressure or infectious disease. I would be very concerned in an older dog with enlarged spleen that the blood in eye is related to this. I would recommend x-rays of the body and blood work to look at organ function and platelet count. Also, taking sassy to an ophthalmologist would be in her best interest

I'm working under the assumption that autocorrect changed hyphema (blood in the anterior chamber of the eye) to hyphens. If Penny does hyphema, this can be a result of a number serious underlying conditions, including severely elevated blood pressure, blood clotting disorders, trauma, among others.
