My dog bled after Adequan shot. Is it normal or should I call vet?

It could have been from his nails or paws which may not be easily evident. It could of course be from anywhere else. If you notice where it is coming from (like coming from the urine) or it continues to happen and you cannot find out where it is coming from, I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. They could perform a very thorough examination to look for a source of bleeding and perform any diagnostics like a urinalysis if needed. Hopefully this is nothing concerning. I think she should be rechecked. It sounds like she had an open pyometra or uterine infection. While the discharge could still be normal it's also possible that she needs antibiotics for a bit longer. Sometimes the injections and antibiotics do not completely clear the infection and surgery is necessary.

I'm so sorry to hear the Arya is not doing well. The most common side effects that we see after vaccination are sore soreness and lethargy. It sounds like Arya had a more severe reaction than that. Blood in the urine is not a normal side effect of vaccination, so I would recommend contacting your vet and having her evaluated. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Injections prior to surgery can be given under the skin, in the muscle or directly into the vein. So the location of her injection is not as worrisome as the bleeding afterwards. I am glad the her clotting times were ok. She should have a CBC checked as well and potentially be screened for a disorder known as Von Willebrand disease. If these tests are all normal, then you can proceed with her spay. As far as being groggy, different drug doses may be recommended prior to her next procedure. Some dogs are more sensitive to others to drugs and that cannot be predicted ahead of time. A note in her file can be made though. I hope this information helps! I do not suspect she will have any longterm damage from the incident.

The rabies inhection is not the cause of her vaginal bleeding. Most female dogs go into heat twice a year so she would likely be on the way of her second heat. If her vulva is also swollen, then that is the cause of bleeding. If her vulva is not swollen, you should take her to a veterinarian for an exam as she may have a urinary tract infection or a uterine infection

Adequan and other injectable polysulfated glycosaminoglycans (the active ingredient of adequan) showed promising results when they were first tested for use in arthritic patients, but the most recent studies suggest that it's not very beneficial. I have actually stopped recommending it, because the I have not seen sufficient data to show that they are worth the money and need for a regular injection. Some people still swear by it and may recommend in cases where everything else has failed, so that may be the reason it was given to Abbey. Considering Abbey does not appear to be getting any benefit from the injections, I would definitely question your vet about the need for further injections and also about the potential need for other medications to help with the pain.
