Puppy not eating, stomach gurgling, and gassy. When to see a vet?

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Miko! Since Miko is so young and hasn't been eating I recommend you have her seen sooner than later. Puppies that young can deteriorate quickly. If she is not up to date on vaccines, parvo is a concern. But it could be other viral or bacterial infections, food intolerance, ate something that isn't agreeing with her, intestinal parasites or a foreign body. Try offering her something yummy like boiled chicken or hamburger with rice or some meat flavored baby foods. If she continues to not eat, starts vomiting or having diarrhea or is lethargic she needs to be seen. i wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery for Miko

It appears that Bebe is having some form of gastrointestinal irritation. This can definitely make a dog feel nauseous and stop eating. Diarrhea is a common problem and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). It may not be serious right now, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If Bebe has any of the following, then she should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help her get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good). Feed small portions three times a day. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. Poor girl. These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. Hello. I am sorry to hear that Rilo has an upset stomach and is fidgety. Any upset stomach can cause pain, and this is likely causing Rilo to be fidgety. If he is unable to settle, is lethargic (quiet/sad), not wanting to eat, or appears to have a distended or bloated (sticking out the sides and hard) stomach or abdomen, he needs to be seen immediately. Also, if he has vomiting and diarrhea he should be seen by a veterinarian. Either way if he is fidgety I would recommend a consult with a vet to get Rilo pain management. If he is otherwise happy, eating/drinking, and urinating and defecating well, and not vomiting, you can try fasting him for 24 hours and see if that improves. Any bloating requires immediate vet care or it can be fatal however, so make sure he has a comfortable and soft stomach when you touch it. I hope he feels better soon.

Congratulations on your new puppy! Diarrhea is not uncommon in puppies and there are numerous possible causes, including things like an upset GI tract due to a change in diet or stress, intestinal parasites such as worms or protozoal organisms like Giardia or Coccidia, or more serious causes such as bacterial infection or parvo virus. If Jake is having any vomiting or seems weak/lethargic we would be concerned about parvo virus and he should go to the vet right away for testing and treatment. If Jake is eating normally with no vomiting and a good energy level, he should see a vet for an exam as soon as you can get an appointment but it isn't an emergency situation, and in the meantime you can start a probiotic which you can find at many pet stores or your vet's office. It's possible Oreo could have an upset stomach. Picking up his food and then offering some bland food such as boiled rice and chicken can help with minor GI upset. If the gurgling continues or he seems ill, a vet visit is best to rule out more serious illness, parasites, etc that could cause stomach upset.

You can try a bland meal or two of boiled rice and chicken to see if it helps settle Benji's stomach if it's due to minor GI upset. If the gurgling continues, or you see other issues such as vomiting or diarrhea, it could indicate something else such as internal parasites, underlying illness, food allergies, etc, which should be checked out by a vet. Bringing in a stool sample along with Benji to the vet can help rule out the more common causes of stomach upset.
