My dog got stung by a bee. Will both eyes swell? When will it go down?

They do tend to swell varying amounts when they get stung by bees, but they don't tend to have severe complications, so I would not worry too much right now. You can safely give one 50mg tablet of benadryl by mouth to help prevent allergic reactions. Just know that this will make him drowsy. An allergic reaction normally happens within the first couple of hours, so if he's doing OK by the end of the day, then he should be fine. If he starts vomiting, you notice his face swell excessively, or he seems to have trouble breathing, then these would be signs of an allergic reaction that needs emergency vet treatment. You can proactively give benadryl to hopefully prevent any type of reaction leading to swelling. If Bertie just ate a bee you should monitor him for signs of facial swelling and breathing problems. If you notice that his respiration becomes fast, loud and raspy, you should take him to your local vets as an emergency.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kyle. You are giving Benadryl plus Congestion. Unless specifically directed to do so by his veterinarian, I would stop this medication. He should be receiving just Benadryl which contains only diphenhydramine. Some dogs will require ongoing doses of steroids to keep the swelling down in the days following the reaction. His veterinarian may prescribe an antibiotic for the wounds that have started as well. I recommend contacting his veterinarian and see if a recheck appointment is necessary to discuss his medication. I would just monitor the paw for now. You can apply an ice pack for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times per day to help with the discomfort or reduce any swelling that may occur. If Diva begins to have any other symptoms such as breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, etc. I would recommend getting her examined by a veterinarian for further treatment. If this is still swollen then I would be worried about infection/inflammation secondary to the sting, or a problem unrelated to the sting. I would recommend having Kodie seen by your vet and they will do a physical exam, and will check his lymph nodes and likely will want to take some x-rays of that limb. With his age we have to worry about a possible cancer causing the swelling. I would recommend a visit with the vet as soon as possible. Best of luck with Kodie.
