My dog ate a bee/wasp. What emergency signs & treatments are there?

If Bertie just ate a bee you should monitor him for signs of facial swelling and breathing problems. If you notice that his respiration becomes fast, loud and raspy, you should take him to your local vets as an emergency.

Benadryl is an antihistamine that is useful in managing allergic reactions, which in dogs, could include facial swelling, hives or difficulty swallowing and breathing. If Shasta experiences facial swelling or has difficulty breathing or swallowing, she should be taken to an emergency veterinarian immediately, as she likely would require steroids in addition to an antihistamine. However, if she seems perfectly normal after eating the bee, there is no need to give her medication. Just continue to monitor her closely over the next few hours for any changes, as most serious allergic reactions occur shortly after exposure to the allergen. I hope that all goes well for Shasta!

Oh no, poor Kratos! If he's getting worse, he needs to be back into a vet immediately. He needs further treatment, and if his face continues to swell up, he could go into respiratory distress. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Oh my, that is quite swollen, and I'd be concerned that this swelling could increase and affect her breathing. This is a medical emergency and cannot be treated at home. Bee stings can be serious if the dog happens to be allergic, just like in people - but the vast majority of the time, they don't cause any major problems at all :) Many dogs like to catch bees and swallow them, and I very rarely see any significant issues related to this. If Dutch is acting normal, there should be no cause for concern. Signs of a possible allergic reaction would include facial swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or weakness or collapse. If you see any of these signs, then I would take him to a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, you can just monitor him for the next few hours to make sure everything is okay.

If the swelling does not resolve with the Benadryl, I would recommend having Pepper examined by a veterinarian for further treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Check the inside of Jack's mouth (cheeks, outside of the gums, inner part of the gums, roof of the mouth, the tongue). A sting could cause these symptoms, as well as chewing on something sharp or foul tasting. If Jack seems comfortable for the rest of the day and eats dinner without issues, then I would think he is fine. If he doesn't feel like eating, if you see a wound in the mouth, or if you notice that the mouth, tongue, or muzzle starts to swell, then he should be examined by a vet right away.
