My dog ate a tamale leaf. Is it poisonous? When to see a vet?

The leaves of a tomato plant contain the glycoalkaloids alpha-tomatine and dehydrotomatine. These substances are toxic to both pets and people. If your cat or dog eats the leaves, he might experience lethargy, drooling, stomach upset, diarrhea, vomiting and changes in his behavior. Tremors or seizures could also occur. If you have observed or suspect your pup has munched on your tomato plants, it's best to get him to the vet so he can be treated. Poisoning is a serious situation and you should visit an emergency vet if your regular vet isn't available.

The leaf may burn her mouth, but she'd have to eat a lot of them for it to be lethal. She may experience some gastrointestinal effects, such as diarrhea and vomiting, and if these symptoms persist more than 24 hours get her in to see the vet.

One leaf can cause lower level toxicities like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Multiple leaves can cause fatal heart arrhythmias. To be on the safe side, I would recommend inducing vomiting by a vet even with her history of digestive upset since this toxin will also cause digestive issues. An anti-nausea shot can be given after Goldie vomits to try to prevent any worsening of the vomiting at home. That wasn't good of Hope to eat the tortilla! The good news is that the fruit of the lime is edible to dogs, only the skin and the plant material causes problems. More than likely, these tortillas have lime fruit as part of them, and that should not cause a problem. You can look out for signs of toxicity from the skin and plant material just to be safe, which includes vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. Should you see any of those signs, I would take Hope into the vet to be safe; otherwise, she should be fine :-)

At worst, you may see some stomach upset (vomiting, diarrhea). If so, withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your vet include persistent vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

1 bay leaf is unlikely to be an issue, but bay leaves have the could potential to cause some irritation to the stomach and intestine which may result in vomiting and diarrhea.
