My dog ate a leaf. Could it be toxic? What should I do right now?

The leaf may burn her mouth, but she'd have to eat a lot of them for it to be lethal. She may experience some gastrointestinal effects, such as diarrhea and vomiting, and if these symptoms persist more than 24 hours get her in to see the vet.

1 bay leaf is unlikely to be an issue, but bay leaves have the could potential to cause some irritation to the stomach and intestine which may result in vomiting and diarrhea. The leaves of a tomato plant contain the glycoalkaloids alpha-tomatine and dehydrotomatine. These substances are toxic to both pets and people. If your cat or dog eats the leaves, he might experience lethargy, drooling, stomach upset, diarrhea, vomiting and changes in his behavior. Tremors or seizures could also occur. If you have observed or suspect your pup has munched on your tomato plants, it's best to get him to the vet so he can be treated. Poisoning is a serious situation and you should visit an emergency vet if your regular vet isn't available.

Oh no, that's not good that Layla ate a petal from a lily! As I'm sure you know, the lily is toxic to dogs and causes GI upset, anorexia, and tremors. Typically a dog has to eat large amounts of it to cause these symptoms, so one petal may not be enough to cause any problems. I would watch Layla for now, and if you do see any GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to try. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I am unable to find a plant called philadrium and assume you meant philodendron. This plant contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation to the mouth and stomach if ingested. A dead leaf probably has little calcium oxalate and the risk for toxicity would be low. If Molly's mouth seems irritated, or if she's drooling or she vomits I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian. If you were talking about a different plant you can repost your question with the scientific name (Genus and species).

Hi there I would recommend that your take Ballo to the ER vet. They can make him vomit safely and watch him for signs of toxicity. Avocado leaves are toxic and he needs to be on some fluids to help flush his system. You can call Poison Control and see if the amount he ate is toxic: ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435), or the Pet Poison Helpline (855-213-6680) If you absolutely can't get to the ER soon, here is what you can try, but the ER is best. If Ballo hasn't eaten in 2 hours or more, offer him a small meal. If he won't eat, that's okay. One teaspoon = five ml. The maximum amount of hydrogen peroxide to be given at any one time is 45 ml, even if a dog weighs over 45 pounds. Squirt the hydrogen peroxide into the back of the dog’s mouth using the syringe or turkey baster. If vomiting has not occurred within 15 minutes or so, he needs to go to the ER. I hope that helps.
